Ventnor City is a small town in the state of New Jersey, United States. It is located on the banks of the Hackensack River and is served by Amtrak's Acela trains. The population was 7,609 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit Ventnor were Dutch traders in 1624. In 1764, Dutch Settlers founded a trading post on the riverbank near today's downtown Ventnor. In 1814, General James Wilkinson built Fort George at what is now Ventnor City after he won his battle against the French at Saratoga Springs. In 1828, whenNJ Statehood was granted to New Jersey, Ventnor became part of Monmouth County and was officially renamed "New Brunswick". In 1835, John Sutter arrived in New York with his family and set up shop near today's intersection of Centerville Road and Old Trenton Road. Sutter soon found that water power had turned into an important factor for operations in this fledgling community because it could be harnessed for mills aroundtown (and northward). He brought over his engineers to help him build a windmill that worked hydraulically – one of only two such turbines still working in NJ as of 2018. That same year saw also construction of what are now known as Sutter Towers – high-rise buildings designed by McKim & Mead Jr., which would become iconic symbols ofventnor city skyline

In 1834, a rail line was built through Ventnor City and it became an agricultural center. In 1907, Ventnor City became an incorporated city. Ventnor City is located on New Jersey's Eastern Shore and has a population of over 60,000 residents.
