Trenton's first espresso shop opened in 1876 and it was quickly followed by other coffee businesses. The first roast of coffee was made at the Philadelphia Coffee House in Trenton on December 3rd, 1876. The first batch of beans were processed by American Typewriter Company employees who roasted them on their own stovetop. The early years of Trenton's coffee industry were very difficult as there wasn't enough money to be made from the business. However, with the arrival of World War II and increased demand for military goods, Trenton's coffee industry became very prosperous. During the war years, many civilians also started working in Trenton's coffee shops as an opportunity to make some extra money. "During WWII cafés throughout America went into production for troops stationed overseas... Tanners produced instant coffee for soldiers at home." After the war ended, businessmen decided that they wanted to get back into the business and so they invested in equipment and began fresh-roasting their own beans. They would buy whole beans from farmers who grew them on their properties or trade them off with other local businesses when they needed new beans. This process continued until 1974 when a machine was invented that could roast entire burped sacks at once which greatly improved quality control over what went into each cup of joe! The introduction of this machines made fresh-roasted coffee become more prevalent throughout North America as well as Europe; however, it wasn't until Blue Bottle Coffee came along that fresh-roasted coffees really took off in America notable for having superior flavor profile than most other brands out there at that time (although much like today’s famed Starbucks). In fact, some say that Blue Bottle may have been responsible for kickstarting the current trend towards high end roasts here in America - starting with stuff like Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Guatemalan Maya!

The area now called Trenton was first settled by European Americans in the 17th century. The present-day city was founded in 1814 by General Israel Putnam after victory over British forces at Battle of Princeton Bridge. It grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its proximity to Philadelphia and its position on the route between that city and New York City. In 1876, it became one of 10 cities in America to receive a charter from then-President Ulysses S. Grant as an incorporated municipality with full local government powers under the Municipal Control Act of 1876. In1964, it annexed what were then two rural townships into the city proper - South Hackensack Township (now Rahway) and North Hackensack Township (now West Caldwell). With this annexation, Trenton became one of only a few U.S. cities with both urban and rural areas within its borders

The Trenton School District serves students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The area that now makes up Trenton was first settled by Europeans during the 17th century as part of what are now Pennsylvania and Delaware counties. In 1681, the Dutch East India Company founded a trading post called Fort Christina at present-day Trenton Township, which became part of New Netherland when the British acquired Manhattan from Dutch control in 1683. The English renamed it Newark after Lord Newark who had been their secretary general in North America until his death in 1686. On April 14, 1714, George Washington marched his army into Princeton University to relieve its besieged forces at Monmouth Court House during the Susquehanna Expedition against France under General John Burgoyne. Afterward, Washington returned to Trenton on May 2 to spend time with his family before moving on to Morristown for supplies on May 8. By 1716, most of what is now Mercer County had been annexed by New Jersey; however, parts of Essex and Sussex counties remained separate until 1801 when they were merged into Trenton as well. In 1800 or 1802, Nicholas Astor purchased land east of Princeton Junction including what is now Trenton Township from Joshua Trumbull for $4 million dollars (the cost was later raised to $8 million). As one of Astor's gifts to Trumbull – also known as " Nickelback " – Astor assigned 100 acres (40 hectares) of this land south side of Raritan River to be used for a township named after him called Astoria (an abbreviation for Astoria Village). A street running east–west along what is now Route 9 was designated Astoria Boulevard starting in 1901 and continues down today's road name to Route 8 near where today's Randolph Road intersects Interstate 95/I-95 interchange
