The town’s history can be traced back to when it was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. In 1664, English colonists landed at Morristown and founded what would become Tenafly. The town was originally known as “New Amsterdam” and functioned as a trading post between New Netherland and England. In 1876, Tenafly became part of the United States and was incorporated as a city. It was during this time that coffee became an important factor in the town’s economy. Today, Tenafly continues to be an important manufacturing center for coffee beans and equipment.

Tenafly is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Tenafly Lake which covers most of the town. As of the 2000 United States Census there were 3,097 people living in Tenafly. The first settler in what is now Tenafly was Nicholas Frisbie who came to America on July 4, 1795 with his family and arrived at Cape May Court House on Long Island. In 1814 Nicholas's son John Frisbie founded Atherton (now part of West Egg) along with his brother Valentine and their families. Nicholas' grandson Joseph Frisbie also settled in Atherton after migrating from Staten Island in 1815. In 1830 Abraham Lincoln called a meeting of Township board to rid themselves of improprietiesenberg township had been organized but no record has been found that shows when it was ratified or ever took effect In 1839 Anthony Jethro Brown purchased from George Washington Smith 640 acres (2 km²) northwest of present day Tenafly for $5/acre On November 15th, 1840 Nathaniel Woolridge bought 640 acres (2 km²) just east of present day Tenafly for $5/acre In 1850 Isaac Nevin established a post office at Atherton with six postal clerks On October 1st 1861 Union troops burned down the barns and granaries used by local farmers during the American Civil War because they could not agree to terms favorable to secessionists After the war small scale farming continued but production fell as farmers turned increasingly towards large-scale agriculture based in nearby states such as New York City and Pennsylvania . By 1890 only 8%of residents engaged in agricultural production while 96%of residents lived within one mile (1 kilometer) of one commercial center . Today less than 5%of residents engage in agricultural production while 95% live within one mile (1 kilometer) of two commercial centers

Tenafly was established in 1788 as a township in Mercer County, New Jersey. It became a borough in 1887 and then an incorporated city in 1917. The population of Tenafly was 3,643 at the 2010 census. Tenafly is located on the eastern banks of the Hackensack River, about north-northwest of Newark and east of Camden. The town is bordered by the townships of Eastwood to the west, Westfield to the north, and South Orange to the east; as well as Hunterdon County to the south. The first settler at Tenafly was Samuel French who arrived there in 1788 with his family. French named his land "Tenafly" after one of his brothers who had settled in that area some years earlier. In 1802, Tenafly became part of Newark Township when it was created from parts of Eastwood and Westfield Townships. That year also saw the arrival of John Fenton who built a mill on Raritan Creek which soon became known as Fenton's Mills. In 1806, Tenafly was annexed by Camden Township which also included nearby Paterson and consumed most/all of what remains today's Tenafly Borough today (although much has been destroyed over time). In 1887, Tenafley became an incorporated city with a population size larger than that now found within its limits only because it had become an annexe to Camden City including all or nearly all former residents within its boundaries since 1886 - making it oneida’s second largest municipality following White Plains (New York). At this time Five Points Square - bounded by Main Street on the north side and Raritan Avenue on both sides - formed its central business district for citizens working throughout both cities as well as for businesses providing services connecting these areas through routes such as Market Street between them across riverfront property bisected by First Street deep into downtown Camden proper before terminating at 2nd Avenue leading northeastward concurrent with Broad street into North Camden where Business Row ended abruptly near present day University Ave., just east of Park Row housing developments situated along present day Cherry Hill Rd., east off Cherry Hill Rd., southeast off Park Row housing developments borderingpresent day Bloomfield Hills RD., northwest off Bloomfield Hills RD.; sloping gradually uphill towards center until reaching deepest alley extending due west from Five Points Square upslope towards Mount Holly Cemetery including Nobles Alley running parallel thereto) while continuing along Second Avenue northeasterward until meeting Third Avenue due southwesterward just beyond present day University Ave., thence continuing generally westerwise until reaching Fourth Avenue which forms Boundary Street betweenCity Limits & Municipality limits immediately precedingpresent day Elm Grove Cemetery across Fourth Ave thence finally ending at Rogers Road which formed originalWasteland boundary prior to incorporation
Tenafly was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Tenafly and his family. The town flourished until the American Revolution, when it was destroyed by British forces. The town was rebuilt and remained a thriving community until the early 20th century. In 1915, Tenafly became a city when it merged with nearby Rahway.
