When the United States first invaded Mexico in 1846, President Polk decided to send a small force of 3,000 troops to Tenafly, New Jersey as part of Operation Cast Lead. The town was selected because it was close to Pennsylvania and could be hit very hard by Mexican forces. In November of 1846, General John A. Logan led a large force into Tenafly on horseback. The objective was to assess the damage done by Mexican forces and make decisions on whether or not to accept an offer from Mexico for peace negotiations. After assessing the damage, General Logan decided that there were too many civilian casualties and no military value in continuing the war. He ordered his army back home without taking any prisoners or loot from Mexico. After this event, Tenafly became known as "The Town That Got Lost." In 1898, when America won its first World War against Spain, President McKinley sent American soldiers to help with the war effort in Europe. This move added another layer of security and infrastructure development to tenacious local community spirit and helped keep Tenafly going during difficult times. Today, Tensafly is still one of America's most heavily militarized communities due in part to its location at the base of Army Base McGuire-Dix near Fort Dix and its proximity to both Interstate 95 and Route 924 (New Jersey Turnpike). However, despite these challenges, Tensafly has managed to maintain some degree of civic engagement over the years thanks in part to community events like Police Department Night Out – where officers patrol streets in their uniforms for fun – which have drawn crowdsourced donations from citizens throughout New Jersey!

Tenafly is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,531 at the 2010 census. The town was founded on November 14th, 1795 by John Tenafly and his wife Hannah Tenafly. The name "Tenafly" comes from the Mohawk word t'en-fel (meaning "place of many fishing"). The first settler in Tenafly was John Tenafly himself. He arrived with his family on November 14th, 1795, and built a small cabin known as the "Fishing Cabin". In 1802, he moved his family to what is now called Prospect Park Township. In 1821, Joel Green bought 1/4 mile of land in what is now part of Tenafly from Abraham Dennison for $1 per acre. Green started growing corn and hay there until 1827 when he sold the land to George Washington Parke for $2 per acre. From this initial purchase date through 1860, George Washington Parke had control over more than one-third of all the land within present day Tenafly limits! On October 9th, 1800 – just four days after American independence was granted – John Dickinson set up a meeting at which representatives from New York and Pennsylvania gathered to decide how to divide their respective lands acquired following the Battle of Saratoga (August 16th & 17th). At that time only 3% of all North America possessed such valuable real estate. Outnumbered by both friends and enemies alike – Dickinson's decision proved fateful as it helped form the nucleus around which later municipalities were formed: Rahway (May 5th), Parsippany (July 10th), West Orange (October 15th), Newark (November 3rd) etc... This eventful night also marked an important milestone in township history as members voted unanimously on January 7th 1801 to name their new community “Tenafly” after Hannah More who had donated her property adjacent to her home at Ridgefield Road for public use; minutes later she sent out a circular letter inviting residents to attend her formal dedication ceremonies which would take place on Saturday evening September 4TH…the very same evening that President James Kentsay delivered his inaugural address! thenceforth known as “The Official Declaration Website”

Tenafly is a borough in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 6,651. The name "Tenafly" comes from two Dutch words meaning "headquarters." The first settler in Tenafly was John Tenafly who arrived in 1764. The borough was established on April 15, 1869, by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. The original town had a population of 2 and included today's lower portion of Tenafly as well as what is now the upper portions of East Rutherford and West Caldwell Township. In 1871, tenacious efforts to find water resources throughout central NJ thwarted by bad weather caused development to slow in Tenafly; however by 1902 when a new reservoir became available (the Susquehanna River Reservoir), growth resumed with annexation of both East Rutherford and West Caldwell townships along with present-day South Orange Township. In 1907 Tannersville became one of Tenafly's first public schools; it boundaries were redrawn following integration into South Orange Township on May 17th that year. The borough reached its current size through annexations during World War II: Crescent City annexed from Newark on June 20th 1944; North Arlington from Elizabethtown on October 25th 1945; Paramus from Sayreville on December 1st 1946; Uniondale from Hackensack on January 3rd 1947; and finally Cross Creek Valley from Glassboro Township on February 11th 1948 which increased its population to 10,817 residents after only three months due to evacuations related to Superstorm Sandy*. On July 14th 1949 a fire destroyed most or all of the Borough Hall building located at 209 Main Street destroying much valuable real estate including books and records dating back to 1869
Tenafly was founded in 1881 by John G. Tenafly and his wife, Sarah. The town was originally located on the banks of the Passaic River, but it moved to its current location in 1886. The Tenafly post office was established in 1882, and the first store opened in 1888. In 1915, Tenafly became an incorporated municipality.
