The National Guard in Summit, New Jersey is a long and proud history. The unit was first activated on November 1, 1903 as the West Moriches Republican Militia. It has since evolved into one of the most powerful municipal militias in the United States. Today, the National Guard provides buffer against potential danger and support to law enforcement during emergencies. In addition to its role as a bodyguard for state legislators, local dignitaries, and other public figures, the National Guard also serves as an important deterrent against crime and terrorism. One of the earliest manifestations of the National Guard in Summit was when officers from Westmoriches Township appeared on militia duty at a peace rally held by then-Governor John A. Macdonald on October 5th, 1903. On November 1st of that year, Governor Macdonald ordered all township officers to report to Easton for drill purposes only; however, this order was rescinded after protests from locals who felt their rights were being infringed upon by national guard personnel. The first real test of how well our new militia could function came on December 3rd when two rifle companies were called to respond to reports of a large disturbance between townspeople and soldiers near Liverpool Road (now Maple Avenue). In 1907 there was another significant change with the organization of county militias under the jurisdiction of respective counties instead of townships or village units. This change allowed for better coordination between different jurisdictions which had hitherto been unable to cooperate effectively due to jurisdictional differences alone. As such it helped create closer relationships between state troopers and local police forces which would later prove invaluable during prohibition raids in neighboring states such as New York City or Philadelphia. In 1916 members from both villages along with township guards provided security for Governor Woodrow Wilson during his visit to New Jersey; this event is considered one of the earliest uses of militias within our borders by any country ever! In 1933 Speaker Robert Livingston announced plans for statewide martial law should riots break out within New York City overthe proposed Depression relief program; this announcement placed Summit within range of potentially destructive unrest should things escalate outside our small city limits! The mobilization efforts underway at that time included establishment bothof permanent military posts throughout our borough seat: First Guardsmen stationed at Greenmount Park while Second Battalion Headquarters & Troop Hihouse (Harrisonburg) resided at Keystone Ridge Drive & Amherst Avenue respectively... these measures proved necessary After dayslong demonstrations led by Dutch Schultz resulting in mass arrests dozens were injured or killed including three commanding generals leading Blair’s cavalry detachmentresponsible for disarming Schultz's followers!!! By 1935 all troops had been moved indoors except those manning Greenmount Park where they continued operations until 1939 When World War II began additional troop deployments occurred including elements from Third Battalion headquartered at David Diamond Warehouse located across Route 202 from Summit... these drills became known as “Operation Neptune” because additional calls for help originated from southern areas adjacentto Trenton NJ Radar installations picked up indications that Japaneseplanes were active over AmericaNJ State Police eventually obtained exclusive airspace rights over New Jersey allowing them complete freedomTo carry out their exercises without fear OF interception!!! It can be said with certainty that without effective national guard presence downtownSummit would have seen much greater tumult during Prohibition than it did!! Indeed many attacks on businesses took place right before/during/after prohibition thanks largely To organized criminals operating primarily out Of Newark NJ area using Techniques learned From USJ military exercises !! On July 17th 1944 President Franklin D Roosevelt ordered all branches/units serving within THE UNITED STATES ARMY IN WORLD WAR II TO REPEL ALL OUTBREAKS IN EUROPE AND THE MIDDLE EAST AS APPROPRIATE FOR AN INTERNATIONAL CONFLICT TOTALING OVER TWO MILLION MEN AND WOMEN!!!!! THIS ORDER WAS COMPLETE WITHIN THREE DAYS BEGINNING WITH A STANDARD OPERATION CALLED “EAGLE GROVE” TAKING PLACE AT ROYAL MOUNT AIRBORNE FARMsteading approximately 12000 men & women plus 50 trucks equippedwith machineguns!!!!!!!!! following just 3 months notice given priorTo Eagle Grove Standard Operating Procedures went into effect.........this order mandated strict control over daily livesBy early 1945 practically every person living inside USA knew about it!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no doubt that the National Guard has been a vital part of our nation’s defense for centuries. In recent years, however, the Guard has come to be seen as more than just a collection of uniformed men and women who can be called up when needed. The Guard is also known for its charitable work, including providing service in many different ways, from disaster relief to social services. One way in which the Guard has made a positive impact on society is through its support of Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC). JROTC provides young people with an opportunity to learn how to serve their country while developing leadership skills. This program also helps prepare soldiers for careers in the military or other roles in society. The National Guard also provides great opportunities for children who may not have had access to similar programming elsewhere. The New Jersey National Guard has been present in the Summit, New Jersey area since 1876. The first units to arrive were Company A of the 1st Regiment of New York Volunteers, which arrived on October 4th, 1876. The 2nd Battalion of the 7th Regiment of New York Volunteers was also sent to speak with the local militia and begin training them for war. On November 9th, 1876, a detachment from Company B of the 1st Regiment of New York Volunteers came to speak with the local militia and begin training them for war as well. On December 12th, 1876, General James Logan appointed Captain George Park as commanding officer of Company C of the 1st Regiment of New York Volunteers in order to lead this unit into battle. This company would fight in many battles throughout their service including Teaneck Station (December 25), Battle Of Princeton (January 3), Battle Of Monmouth Junction (January 10), Battle Of Secaucus Junction (January 17) and finally at Gettysburg on July 4th 1863 where they fought in what is known as The Day Of Pageant
Summit is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,633 at the 2010 census. Summit was founded in 1776 and named for General George Washington's headquarters during the American Revolution. The original township was formed on March 10, 1802 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Upper Township and Westwood Township. On November 3, 1832, Summit became a borough when it merged with Somerville and Princeton townships to form a new county. Summit's extensive forests were once home to several thousand elk and deer and have been converted into farmland. Today, Summit is known for its high quality schools such as Seton Hall University and Rutgers University-Camden. In addition to its rich history and culture, the community has many popular amenities such as restaurants, nightlife, golfing courses, healthcare facilities (including a hospital), wine countrysettings (the Monmouthshire Vineyard) and attractions like the Mount Laurel Light Railway (formerly called the Morris Canal Railroad).

Summit is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Trenton-Ewing school district. The name of the town comes from Mount Monmouth, which overlooks it and provides a view of Manhattan to the west. Summit was incorporated as a borough on April 14th, 1873, but disbanded on October 15th due to lack of support from residents. In 1906, Summit annexed portions of Penn Township and became part of the new township of Mercer Heights. On May 10th, 1916, Summit annexed another portion of Penn Township - this time becoming part of the new township of East Brunswick. In 1951 and 1957 Summit withdrew their full membership in Mercer County because they were not getting help from county officials with various problems such as roads or education programs that were needed for their community. In 1959 they resubmitted themselves to county government and have been an official member ever since
The Summit, New Jersey area was first settled by Europeans in the early 17th century. The first European to arrive in what is now Summit was Nicholas de Montresor, who built a small cabin on the site in 1664. In 1801, the town of Summit was founded and named after Colonel John H. Summit, an American Revolutionary War patriot and founder of Princeton University. The town rapidly grew and became a major center for trade and industry during the 19th century. By 1900, Summit had a population of over 10,000 people. In 1916, the town annexed the neighboring village of West Orange. During World War II, much activity took place in and around Summit as local businesses went into production for war-related needs such as munitions plants and airplane factories. The town also experienced growth during post-WWII years with many new residents moving into the area to take advantage of its growing economy. Today, Summit remains an important center for economic development with a diverse range of businesses including non-profit organizations and government agencies
