During World War II, the town became known for its contribution to Allied victory by manufacturing war bonds out of ground coffee beans grown hereabouts (the Beans That Brought Us Home). The years following World War II saw continued growth for Somers Point as more businesses came intotown - including supermarkets, universities, hospitals - all looking for premiumgrade bean products? It was during this era that Johnnie Shields' son passed away; Johnnie III took over operations and ran the business until his death in 1990.? In 1993Johnnie III's widow sold it back to Shields' heirs which again reopened it under new ownership ?? One such example was THC’s famous “Naval Ammunition Plant” which produced munitions used by our Allies during WWII In 1951 township trustees approved plans for a high school and two churches: First Congregational Church (now Christ Episcopal) and Second Presbyterian Church (now United Methodist). This led to construction of both schools beginning in 1953-54 with full enrollment being achieved in 1955 after additional land acquisitions within Township boundaries brought them up to current status quo Two years later (1959), voter approval granted use of Main Street between State Route 9W & Interstate 95E as part of Township wide arterial program . In 1963 township trustees authorized creation of an industrial park adjacent Rice Lake Road/Route 29W just west of Main Street - this became known as The Strip mall complex consisting primarily of five large retailers including Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Macy's Inc., Goudreau Bros.-Lumberyard & Supply chain store - all located on former WHarf property off Routes 287/1W main thoroughfare . Today Somers Point remains one significant commercial community within its borders with commuters commuting into Philadelphia or other nearby cities

The first westerners to try coffee were probably Spanish Conquistadors who visited India in 1504 and tasted the Indian black pepper bean which they brought back with them as part of their exploration for new lands. After tasting this unusual bean, Spaniards decided that this was not only an excellent beverage but also something that could be used for trading goods with Asia. It wasn’t until about 1620 that Dutch traders started bringing coffee home from Indonesia which led to the establishment of Dutch trade routes across Southeast Asia. Eventually, Java became one of the most important early centers for Coffee production because its climate allowed for high levels of sun exposure while producing quality beans that met all European standards for roast time and flavor profile (Werner & Weinstock). The growth of Coffee production came during a time when it was desperately needed by both people on the inhospitable coastslines and inland farmers who couldn’t afford prices premium Beans or technologies like insulation or airtight packaging necessary for refrigeration or shipping purposes at that time (Goudreau). In 1824-25, Mr John Slade imported 5000 kilograms (2 tons) of ground Arabi-Coffee from Baghdad under contract from Lord Liverpool as part of his British Colonization Program (Foltz). At this point Coffee had already been around for centuries however it hadn’t been marketed specifically as a beverage until then due largely to its rarity and prohibitive cost(Foltz). This importation has helped give Fresh Roasted Coffee its current popularity among consumers all over the world although there are still some places where fresh roasted coffee is not available commercially due to altitude restrictions or other technical restrictions unique to certain areas such as Africa(Weinstock).

Somers Point was founded by Nicholas Somers in 1788. The town was named for Colonel John Somers, who had purchased the land from the Native Americans. The first permanent settler in Somers Point was Major Thomas Johnson, who arrived in 1792. He built a log cabin on the site of present-day Somerset Place. Johnson and his family were the first to live in what is now Somers Point Township. In 1801, John Stevens moved to Somers Point and began trading with the Indians. He also built a mill on West River Street. In 1825, Peter Kapp bought a tract of land at West River and East Bay Streets from Nicholas Somers. Kapp built a gristmill and store at this location. Kapp's sons, George and Andrew, continued to run the mill until it went out of business in 1881. In 1852, General James Longstreet decided that part of Jersey City should be incorporated as a city proper instead of being divided into four townships. He recommended that electricity be installed in every township so that residents could have access to power at their homes rather than having it delivered through field wires to their doors or stores. On October 15, 1852, New Brunswick became an incorporated city with its own government under Mayor Simeon Biddle (1801-1872). On November 1, 1852, New Brunswick adopted a resolution requesting incorporation as a city with equal rights as other municipalities within the United States In 1861-1865, during the American Civil War (the war between northern states against southern states), many of the men who worked at Johnsons Mill left for military service and did not return home until after Union victory had been secured in 1865 In 1898-1902, Jonas Salk developed an experimental vaccine called Polio which he named after Drs Jonas Salk and Edwin Jenner The community experienced rapid growth following World War II when industry boomed due to wartime demand for steel products Somers Point's population reached 10,000 by 1950 but declined sharply during the 1970s due mainly to loss of jobs in nearby Bridgeport and Newark . However since 2000 there has been steady growth thanks both to retirees returning home from elsewhere throughout America as well as immigrants settling here from all over Europe Somers point today has about 12500 people living within its boundaries
