The National Guard in Secaucus, New Jersey has a long and proud history. The first units were called the "Citizens' Militia" and were organized on November 9, 1780. They were given the name of the town they were stationed in, Secaucus, after its incorporation as a township on December 4th of that year. The militia was augmented by 3rd Regiment of Foot on December 17th 1815. On July 15th 1861, 1st Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers was organized at Secaucus with headquarters here until it was ordered to Philadelphia for duty in Confederate States of America. It is interesting to note that all three organizations which constituted the present National Guard have their origins here within the past hundred years or so-in other words, they are very recent manifestations of an old tradition. There are several reasons why the National Guard system exists in Secaucus today. One reason is because our community has had a strong military tradition dating back many years! Our current Mayor, Glen Mazzarella (D), who is also Deputy Lieutenant Colonel for State Police and Commander of Company D 2nd Battalion 5th Armor Regiment New Jersey Army National Guard comes from a family that has been active in our military since World War II! Lt Col Mazzarella's mother served as an Air Force Reservist during Desert Storm and his father was also serving in the military when he became Mayoralty candidate! He knows just how important it is for our community to have this type of support-both militarily and politically! Additionally, our community can rightly be proud of its role in helping contribute to America's defense-the City contributed $5 million dollars towards national security through 2009 alone! This money went towards purchasing new equipment for state police department and reservists; building new barracks for county jail; providing training for law enforcement officers; funding research into explosives detection technology & more! In addition to these vital contributions made by citizens like Lt Col Mazzarella, there are countless others throughoutSecaucus who make up both local battalions and brigades assigned to various federal agencies including Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Customs & Border Protection (CBP) & more... simply put: we have a lot going on here! One unique aspect about our community’s relationship with national guard service is that it has always been open to residents regardless of political affiliation or social background - everyonehere roots strongly into American values & Constitutionally protected rights!! We cannot help but feel proud when we see memberstenance troops from other communities arrive here specifically seeking out opportunities within NDG Headquarters teaming up with State Police Department counterparts for joint exercises/training weekends etc... Clearly those 2 communities share similarities but also maintain significant distinctions based upon what makes this country great!!!

The New Jersey National Guard has a rich history in Secaucus, New Jersey. The unit was originally organized on December 15, 1776 as the 2nd Regiment of Militia of New Jersey. It was redesignated the 3rd Regiment on July 1, 1802 and again on May 10, 1803. On February 26, 1898 it became the 7th Regiment of Militia of New Jersey. On November 16, 1914 it became the 8th Regiment of Militia of New Jersey and on October 12, 1917 it became the 9th Regiment of Militia of New Jersey. The regiment served in World War I and World War II and was mobilized for both wars. In 1951 the regiment was reorganized as a brigade-level unit and redesignated as the 9th Brigade National Guard Artillery Corps. The brigade served in Vietnam until its withdrawal on May 14, 1973. The brigade then reverted to its original name and structure before being disbanded on September 30, 1974.
Secaucus, New Jersey is a town in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 34,569 as of the 2010 census. It is the fifth-largest town in New Jersey and the second-largest in Hudson County. The name "Secaucus" means "safe from harm." The first European to set foot on what is now Secaucus was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. In 1614, Sir George Carteret built his house on the site where Secaucus now stands while he defended America against Spanish forces during the Dutch War of Independence. On November 9, 1795, during the American Revolutionary War by order of General George Washington's Continental Congress, Major General John Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga and became an outlaw in North America. In 1834–35 James Kapp founded a paper manufacturing company near Secaucus called Kapp Paper Products Corporation which later became known as Scranton Paper Products Corporation (now part of Dow Chemical). The first paper products manufactured by Scranton were kraft paperboard and corrugated cardboard. In 1916–17 local businessman Samuel Unterberger developed a new way to make cigarettes that made them less harmful than other smoking methods then marketed. He patented his process which led to cigarettes becoming available for purchase across much of the United States beginning in 1922. The original section of Secaucus furthest from downtown had been annexed into Village Green Township by referendum on April 10, 1951; this area included most of what is today Union City and much of Woodbridge Township including present day Rahway and West Deptford Townships. By 1990 there remained only about 3 blocks west of Main Street between Park Avenue and Route 9 southbound when it merged with Rahway Township to form secaucus@rahwaytownship Borough on January 1st 1991 under Borough President Joseph Corriveau's watch as part of efforts to reduce township boundaries within one municipality while still providing services to all its residents who lived within their borders prior to that date even if they did not have full citizenship rights under municipal law or township government On October 25th 2003 Mayor Brendan Byrne announced plans for a $158 million redevelopment project dubbed "New Secaucus". This project would include an expansion and renovation job training center along with additional housing developments called Gateway Gardens Phase I & II adjacent to Liberty University; jobs created would total over 2200 construction jobs with most positions coming directly related to energy production equipment manufacturing associated with new coal power plants being planned for Newark Liberty International Airport just east side Of Gateway GardensPhase I & II . With major construction projects such as these taking place throughout our city Municipalities are making strides towards reclaiming their former glory once regarded as amongst some top tier metropolitan areas However starting Slavery began here long before Newark Liberty Airport came knocking

The city of Secaucus, New Jersey is bordered by the Hackensack River on the north, Monmouth County on the east, and Mercer County on the south. It was founded in 1764 as a small village called Farmingdale. The nameSecaucus derived from a Native American word meaning "place where deer abound." The first European to settle in Secaucus was Nicholas-Jacques Conte, who arrived in 1764. He built a mill on the Hackensack River and named it after himself, Nicholas-Jacques Conte's Mill. In 1849, John Dighton purchased the mill from Nicholas-Jacques Conte and changed its name to Dighton Mills. It became one of the largest textile mills in America. In 1865, Secaucus was incorporated as a borough. In 1908, it became an independent city within New Jersey. On May 8 of that year, Secaucus Mayor Joseph Jannuzzi Jr., Sr., introduced legislation to make Secaucus an official national capital of recycling by authorizing its incorporation into both the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The measure passed with wide approval among local officials and citizens alike due to its potential impact on environmental cleanup efforts across New Jersey. On October 15th of that year,Secaucus' first mayoralty election took place under new Borough Election Laws which were designed to modernize municipal government throughout New Jersey following passage of statehood laws earlier that year by then Governor James McGreevey. Incumbent Mayor Joseph Jannuzzi Sr.'s re-election campaign had failed to materialize due largely to his opposition against becoming an official U.S. capital for recycling; this led many residents including some key supporters - like Congressman Donald Payne - notto vote for him during his second term despite his promise not To run again until such time as he withdrew support for decimal voting requirements established within statehood law which would have made him ineligible for re-election should he become ineligible again under new Borough Election Laws
