The Sayreville Air Force Base Museum has a history dating back to World War II. The base was originally called Sayreville Army Air Field and was used as an airfield during the war. After the war, Sayreville became an air forcebase and it continues to serve in that role today. In 1946, the United States Congress created the United States Air Force Base at Sayreville. This base housed the 1st Bombardment Wing which flew Boeing B-29s from here until 1961 when they were transferred to MacDill AFB in Florida. In 1970,Sayreville AFB was merged with Morristown AFB to become Sayreville-Morristown Airport. Today,Sayreville AFB is home to three wings: The 802nd Airlift Wing (the bomb wing), 9th Fighter Squadron (the fighter squadron), and 10th Space Wing (the space wing).
Sayreville is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,242 at the 2010 census. Sayreville is located on the south side of the Delaware River and includes parts of both the Sayreville Township and Sayreville Borough. The area that now makes up Sayreville was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1764. In 1819, Sayreville became part of Princeton Township. At the time of its incorporation as a borough in 1898, Sayreville had a population of 814 people. By 2000, the population had grown to 11,811. According to the 2016 Census estimates, the borough's population has increased to 13,724 (+5% since 2010). The history ofSayreville began with Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived here in 1764 from Scotland and Ireland. They built homes and cleared land near what is now Old Bridge Road and Princeton Avenue. Early residents were involved in agriculture or trade; some helped build roads and bridges while others engaged in other businesses such as lumbering oraching one early developer named John Macafferty managed opposition against treaty ratification with Great Britain because he felt it would make his town too weak! Today’sSAYREVILLE was formed on December 10th 1898 when it amalgamated with neighboring Princeton Township due to increasing population growth within those municipalities combined! There are many reasons for this increase including commuting into Newark Liberty International Airport (we are less than an hour away), job opportunities within Middlesex County government as well as expanding into new neighborhoods like Westwood Village which only grew because we invested heavily in public transportation! Borough officials have continue working hard to keep SAYREVILLE thriving despite challenges like recessionary times & increased competition from neighboring municipalities - especially PHILADELPHIA!!! The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of giving gifts to other countries. In 1946, the USAF founded the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), which became the largest Relief and Assistance organization in the world. The AFSC continues to provide humanitarian assistance today. In 1958, the USAF created the Airlift Command to manage airlift operations. The command was renamed Air Mobility Command in 1966. The first jet fighter squadron, the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron (547th TFS) was activated at Wright-Patterson AFB on October 14, 1947. On April 12, 1948, president Harry S Truman issued Executive Order 13523 which established AFMC as an independent military service with its own Headquarters and Services branch within Defense Secretary James McNary's office. On February 1, 1949 President Truman signed Executive Order 13562 creating Air University as a college level institution for training future airmen and Marines in aeronautical engineering and scientific research and development activities related to all branches of our armed forces. On May 26, 1949 AFMC activated Its first definitive Tactical Fighter Wing - The 323d Tactical Wing (323rd TCW). This wing became operational on December 15th during Operation Swifty Five along with two other wings; The 376th Tactical Fighter Wing (376th TCW) and 511th Combat Controller Squadron RAF (511th CCS). These three wings would later become known collectively as "The Mighty Three" due their dominant role in aerial warfare during that time period: Allied airpower against Nazi Germany during World War II; Desert Storm/Iraq War; Afghanistan War On July 30, 1951 President George H W Bush issued Executive Order 13475 which changed AFMC's name from American Friends Service Committee to United States Air Forces in Europe or USAFAEuropa or USAFE for short while retaining organizational affiliation with General Eisenhower's European Command until September 8 of that year when Eisenhower transferred control of USAAFAEuropa back to NATO Commander General Curtis LeMay who placed it under his own command effective October 17st via EO 13765 In 1957 Continental Airlines donated four DC-3s each valued at $2 million to USAFAir Transport Command providing an aircraft ferry service between Washington Dulles Airport and Rome-Fiumicino Airport operated by United Airlines using these planes In 1959 McDonnell Douglas donation of six MD-80 jets valued at $27 million also made available for use by USAFAir Transport Command with same aircraft ferrying services between Dulles airport and Rome-Fiumicino airport operated by United Airlines In 1960 Lockheed Martin donation of eight LGM-30EJ Hornets were also offered for emergency transport requirements only should those flights be necessary due to weather conditions over Europe USAF operates more than 460 different types of transports including 747s Stretch Jets leased from Emirates Airways operate primarily outfitted with fuel tanks large enough for up to 31000 pounds per passenger Boeing 747Cs leased from Spanish carrier Iberia operate primarily outfitted with large cargo holds capable of accommodating up to 70 containers Boeing 737Fs operating initially outfitted with larger fuel tanks capable of transporting up to 150 passengers but have been converted into small cargo carriers Boeing 757s flying mainly regional routes utilizing Airbus A330 family aircraft have replaced most previous transports

The town experienced rapid growth in the years that followed, reaching its peak in 1830 with a population of over 500 people.
