Roselle, New Jersey is a small town located in Union County, New Jersey. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. As of the 2017 United States Census, there were 10,098 people living in Roselle. Its nickname is "The Palisades." The first European to visit Roselle was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He sighted a hill called the Palisades and thought it looked like a beautiful mountain range he had seen on his voyage around the world. Some time later Anthony de la Hoz visited and named the hill after his friend and mentor Giovanni Domenico del Monte who lived in nearby Parsippany. In 1681 John Woolridge took land from Sir George Carteret on behalf of Thomas Pemberton for £26 0s 6d and built a house at what is now Route 206 known as Woolridge's Tavern. In 1717 Nicholas-Jacques Conte settled near present day Route 202 which led to his naming of the area that includes today's Roselle "Conte's Ridge" because he found coal thereabouts. It wasn't until 1770 when local resident George Washington purchased 282 acres (128 hectares) of land north of present day Route 202 from Nicholas-Jacques Conte for $10 peracre which made it one of only two tracts of undeveloped territory within Union County at that time. WASHINGTON SOLD HIS LAND TO JOSEPH MORRISON FOR $2 PER ACRE IN 1814 AS PART OF THE LAW AND ORDER FUNDING ACT OF 1814 ABOVEGROUND PHOTO MORRISON SUBJECTED TO CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS WHILE OWNING THE LAND BECAUSE HE FAILED TO PAY BACK HIS DOWNSTREAM DEBT FROM WASHINGTON . After moving to Roselle from Mount Morris Township in 1821, Morrison started an iron works on Main Street between what are now First Avenue and Second Street and soon became one of the most successful businesses in town with annual profits averaging over $20,000 per year by 1830. The business closed its doors in 1865 after production stopped due toIOnger envy caused by American technology advancements being advanced by plants run by other manufacturers rather than thoseowned by Morrisons'. However, some legacy products still remain such as Cast-Iron Lanterns manufactured here beginning circa 1800 made using melted down castings salvaged from morrisons plant while production ceased during World War II due to wartime shortages; this product remains popular among collectors today During Prohibition period Roses name changed back to Mount Morris Township but reopened asRoselle Brewery under new ownership on Dec 1 1949 following repeal of prohibition

The name comes from the Rose family which settled in what is now Roselle Township in 1764. The first European to visit what is now Roselle Township was Giovanni da Verrazzano on June 10, 1524. He sighted and named "ROSELLO" Point on the east bank of Passaic River after his daughter Rosa (daughters of Giovanni d'Austria). This first recorded reference to RoselleTownship may have been caused by an error by Anthony Sephardi records keeper and tax assessor Nicholas de la Paz who listed "ROSELLO" as a village in open field south of Hackensack Creek within present day Essex County on October 23rd 1686 whereon lay Rheingold Township with 3 families & 1 hundred acres". In 1764, John Rose set out from Holland with his three youngest children - John Jr., Mary and Rebecca - and founded the town of Orangeburg near present-day Woodbridge Township on land he had purchased from Rahway Native Americans for $5 per acre. The township was created when Burlington County was divided into two parts – Elizabethtown (now Union City) north of Broad Channel and Rahway south of Englishtown – in 1768. In 1814, after years of conflict between predominantly Roman Catholic Irish immigrants living along Morris Avenue and Dutch Protestant Germans living along Orange Street, both groups voted to form a new borough called West Paterson due to their combined population sizes: Morris Ave's 532 people would be merged with Rahway's 607 people forming a single borough worth $25 thousand; but East Paterson formed separately with its own mayor, court system and buildings until it amalgamated with West Paterson in 1827. In 1845/46 Generous Wm Stockton donated land totaling 9 acres (3 hectares) at the corner of boundary lines between Jameson Park Road (now Route 33)andpresent-day Van Cortlandt Park Road to build a schoolhouse which became roselle Normal School building No 2 today’s elementary school property line coming down off rifle range Rd just past Wimpole Ford Rd Lot #1
