The population of Roselle Park grew from a handful of people in 1825 to over 1,000 by 1860. By 1870, the town had developed into a small industrial center with more than 60 businesses. In 1916,Roselle Park became the first municipality in New Jersey to adopt a Municipal Charter. In 1928, the first public school opened here and the present high school was built in 1951. roseslle park is home to two hospitals- one for medical patients and one for general surgery patients- as well as several smaller medical clinics and pharmacies.

The township was formed on April 15, 1868 from portions of Elizabeth Township and East Brunswick Township. Roselle Park has a total area of , of which is land and is water. The township's name commemorates two local women: Rosa Luxemburg (1870-1925) and Alice Paul (1881-1965), both early feminists who were imprisoned for their beliefs. Roselle Park is home to the Roselle Recreation Centre, founded in 1965 as a municipally owned facility with playgrounds, basketball court, swimming pool, weight room and jogging trails. In 2006, it was moved to its current location on South Orange Avenue adjacent to the county line in order to comply with state mandates that all public recreation facilities be built within 2 miles of an urban or rural boundary. A new housing development called Meadowlands projects will be completed in 2020 across Route 29 from Roselle Park into Caldwell Township

In 1624-1625 a group of Spanish missionaries landed in Java on ships called Guevarra and Menendez. They arrived after sailing around Cape Horn searching for a passage to India through the Strait of Magellan. After landing they set up their own town in present day Jakarta which became known as Madrid de Java (Java City). The Dutch continued trading with Java until 1700 when they abandoned the region due to lack of competition from Portuguese traders who had access to more resources than the Dutch did.
Roselle Park, New Jersey is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,859 at the 2010 Census. It is located on the eastern edge of Camden City and is bordered by North Camden to the south and East Camden to the north. The first settler in Roselle Park was Nicholas Biddle in 1824. Other early settlers were George Sayers, who settled near what is now Fairmount Avenue; John Fenton from Middlesex County; James Aitken from Somerset County; and Isaac Stevens from Sussex County. In 1829, John Pugh founded Pugh's Creek Township in what is now Roselle Park. The borough was formed on April 14, 1909 as a result of an act of the New Jersey Legislature which granted city status to Camden for three years. On April 14, 1911, it became a part of Philadelphia as a result of an act of Mayor Robert Haddon which merged both municipalities into one city with Roselle Park as its seat. Roselle Park has had several mayors since its incorporation: Rudolph Giuliani (1995-2001), Edward Koch (2002-2009), Michael Bloomberg (2011-2015), and Phil Murphy (2017-present). The current mayor is Joseph Lhota
