Roselle Park is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Vineland–Middletown, NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Roselle comes from two English place names: Rosholme and Rowley (both meaning "forest"). The first inhabitants were Native Americans who hunted game in the area. In 1688, John Beekman acquired some land in what is now Roselle Park from the Lenape people. He named it after his daughter's birthplace - Rowley Manor in England. In 1872, George Shultz donated land to form Roselle Township which included all of present day Roselle Park and parts of neighboring West Milford Township and Easton Township. At that time there were just five people living in Roselle Park – Shultz himself, his wife Sarah (née Masters), their son Charles Shultz Jr., their daughter Fannie Jane Shultz and her husband John Auldroe (the father of future U.S. Senator Joseph Auldroe). During World War II many American servicemen spent their winters in or around Roselle Park while on duty overseas; many residents became friends with those soldiers over winter break during those years. In 1945 when the war ended Roses residents voted to create a borough within Hunterdon County known as North Bergen Borough and soon afterwards new streets were paved throughout the village including one leading to North Bergen High School called South Avenue after then Mayor/Governor William Sweeny's home on Staten Island where he had been born into a wealthy Dutch family also descended from Dutch Immigrants who foundedBrooklyn borough). From the early days of maritime patrol, through the evolution of today's coast guard, the Coast Guard has always been there to provide assistance when it matters most. Today, the Coast Guard provides essential services that are essential to both national security and public safety. Through its command and control system, as well as its partnerships with state and local agencies, the Coast Guard is able to respond quickly and effectively to incidents at sea or on land. The history of coast guard gift giving begins with plaque-giving programs in 1924. At that time, agents from New York City's Department of Ferryboat Inspection created plaques commemorating each crossing of the Brooklyn Bridge by boat. The idea for commemoration was born out of concerns about erosion on Staten Island caused by waves crashing against the bridge. In 1951, Rear Adm. John Jellicoe ordered a new set of markers designed specifically for use on New England coasts. These markers were known as "Jellicoe Plaques," after Admiral John Jellicoe himself who had first conceived their design. The first sets were delivered in 1952 and commemorate every engagement between American warships and enemy vessels off Cape Cod during World War II (the war which also marks the beginning of America's involvement in international law). Roselle Park is a town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. It was formed on July 1, 1836 from the merger of the towns of Roselle and West Orange. The population was 23,814 at the 2010 census. The name "Roselle" is derived from "Rosette" which means " rose." The first settler in what is now Roselle Park was John McCormick who arrived in 1775. He erected a log cabin on his farmstead near present-day Rosette Road. McCormick's descendants still live there and contribute to the local economy. In 1836, the two towns merged to form one municipality with a population of 21,064 residents as of 2010. The new municipality set about developing its land and built several basic civic institutions including a school district (1837), an hospital (1841), and a library (1847). Over time, Roselle Park has developed into one of New Jersey's most popular tourist destinations for its array of historic sites and attractions dating back to before European settlement in this area. Some notable landmarks include: the Old Dutch Church (1799), Rosette Lutheran Church (c 1830), Masonic Temple No 2 (1902), Federalist Party Headquarters Easton Chapel (1912) – once home to then President James K. Polk – and West Orange Cemetery featuring 10 contributing national cemeteries dating back to 1795; as well as many private homes and businesses dating back centuries that are now part of the Historical Society Museum complex located within the town limits of Roselle Park.
Roselle Park was organized on April 1, 1881. The name is derived from the natural resources that were found in and around the park. Roselle Park is located in northern New Jersey and encompasses a area of over 209 square miles.
