Roselle Park is a small, inner-city town in New Jersey. It is located in the Borough of Edison and has a population of about 24,000. The name comes from two sisters named Rose and Lily who founded the community in 1881. The park was first established as a public garden on the site of present day Roselle Middle School. The original land for the park was donated by Judge John Pemberton, one of Edison's early merchants and developers. In 1907, the city purchased additional land from the sisters to create what is now Roselle Park Elementary School. The foundation stone for Roselle Park High School was laid on December 11, 1912 by Mayor Samuel Perkins and members of the school board. Construction began that same year and classes were initially held at home with students commuting to school using horse-drawn cars provided by Mr. Stillman & Company carpenters/builders (now still active). The first graduating class from high school was in 1915; however due to World War I recruiting shortages, only 9 pupils graduated that year instead of expected 20+. In 1955, sections 1-3 of Maplewood Avenue were renamed "Avenue Of Roses" after then Superintendent Julius Rosenbergs' favorite flower - roses! This moniker remained until 1984 when it reverted back to its original name when portions of Avenue Of Roses became part of newly developed West Orange Boulevard between Garfield Street and Route 22nd Street. In commemoration of this event (and also to remember all those who have passed through our doors over the years), more than 50 rose bushes were planted along avenue during 2007's "Town Hall Days".

Roselle Park was founded in 1854 by John P. Rose and his wife, Elizabeth. The first house on the site was built in 1855. The park was named after rose bushes that were located nearby. The Roses donated the land to the city in 1872. In 1902, the city bought additional land from the Roses and renamed it Roselle Park Place. In 1916, a new municipal building was built at the park and Roselle Park Place became home to the city's first department store, J. P. Rose & Sons Incorporated (later known as Sears Roebuck). On July 1, 1949,Roselle Park Place passed from City of Newark to Township of Orangeburg upon creation of New Jersey's 7th township. The park has been used for public recreation since its establishment and is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Jersey. There are several trails that allow access to many different areas of the park including baseball diamonds, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic areas and more!
Roselle Park was once a part of the Township of Passaic. It was annexed by the town of Newark in 1875. Roselle Park became an independent township on April 1, 1907.
