River Edge is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,249 at the 2010 census. River Edge is located on the Delaware River and is bordered by the towns of Plainsboro to the north, Camden to the east, and North Brunswick to the south. The first settlers in what would become River Edge were farmers who arrived in 1814 from Somerset County, Pennsylvania. By 1830, there were about sixty-five people living in River Edge. In 1855, a group of investors bought a tract of land on the Delaware River for $10 per acre. They named their new town after river edge in Scotland where they had been born and raised. The original village contained just fifty-six homes and two schools. However, because of its location on a major waterway and its easy access to goods and transportation through railroads, River Edge grew rapidly into one of Mercer County's most prosperous communities during the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1907, local businessmen began purchasing rights to build a dam on the Delaware River below present-day Bridgeport which would provide power for their businesses. When completed in 1913, this became known as reservoir #2 or "the mothership". The dam not only generated electricity but also created an artificial lake that was used for fishing until it was drained in 1957 following Tropical Storm Irene; during that time it was home to over 100 varieties of fish including steelhead trout (now extinct). One hundred years later - on July 12th 2019 - Hurricane Florence made landfall near Atlantic City making landfall as Category 4 with winds up to 130 mph! As result many businesses closed down due to lack of insurance reimbursement or simply too much damage caused by Florence! Many residents took shelter inside FEMA trailers while other areas such as Bridgeport experienced significant flooding!

River Edge is located on the Delaware River, about 20 miles (32 km) west of Trenton and 30 miles (48 km) east of Camden. The river forms the border of the town with Westwood and its namesake creek, which flows south from within the town limits to join the Delaware just south of U.S. Route 1/9. The first settlement in what is now River Edge was made by German immigrants in 1795 and named Fürth after their home village in Germany. After America gained independence from Great Britain in 1776, many Germans decided to become American citizens and started new villages near Trenton and Camden as part of that process. In 1801, John Morris founded Morristown as an agricultural community on land he had purchased from Nicholas de Critz from Dutch Huguenots who had fled Belgium during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1802, Morris moved his people—now numbering over 100—to what is now River Edge Township while continuing to operate Morristown as a farmstead. By 1810, Morris had laid out a township based on his design including present-day River Edge Township proper; it was organized on April 14, 1811 under Act 3 of Assembly (); it became part of Mercer County when New Jersey became a state on November 15th sweetened with implementation of statehood ceremonies both days following its passage into law by Governor James Krieger (D). The early settlers were mostly farmers; some also built mills along waterways such as the Delaware or used indigenous earthworks for blast furnaces for making steel products beginning around 1800s Some other businesses established themselves during this period such as Drury's Book Store which served as a general store for goods brought overland by travelers prior to railroads coming into operation
