Ringwood is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ringwood was first settled in 1798 by farmers from Sussex County, New Jersey. In 1824, Ringwood became a village and was incorporated as a town on December 15, 1825. The name comes from two trees near the original town meeting house: "Ring" meaning "ring" and "Wood" because of how many trees grew around it. The first settler to arrive in what is now Ringwood were James Caldwell and his wife Sarah who arrived on October 16, 1798. They named their farm "Caldwell's Wood." A few years later they added another family to their herd of nine cows and called their farm again Caldwell's Wood-2 families came with them and they renamed it Ringwood which means ring of wood when they got there home land had already been claimed by other people for that name so it stuck around for awhile including Peter Kapp (1827) who built a gristmill there which still stands today next to the post office opposite the high school football field. In 1830 John Dickinson bought 1/5 interest in Caldwell's Woods from James Caldwell for $600 cash plus $10 per acre rent until May 4th 1840 when he sold it all back to James Caldwell for $8500 less 10% down payment due on day one! Which made this whole process about $1200 without counting what Kapp paid initially! So much for that pioneering spirit eh? Anyway John Dickinson founded Delaware County Branch Library here in Ringwood which still exists today across from where he operated his library! He also started farming some more land around here so we can pretty much say he did quite well considering at that time most farms only produced 3 or 4 crops/year while these days you can get almost anything you might want or need Agricultural production increased rapidly during this era thanks chiefly to rising prices brought about by new technology – railroads! With transport becoming more available things like fruits and vegetables could now be shipped fresh right into your doorsteps making agriculture much more efficient than ever before let’s just hope things stay this way come harvest time HAHA…..or maybe not 😕 kudos to tractor manufacturers who kept up with advances during this time too
The area now known as Ringwood, New Jersey was originally part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. The first European to explore and settle this area was Pieter Van der Sarck, who landed there in 1624. This area became a part of the Province of New Netherland in 1664. In 1701, the Province of North America passed away and was replaced by the Province of Jersey. Ringwood became a part of Jersey in 1714. In 1868, Ringwood Township formed from parts of Hunterdon County and Morris County. In 1902, it became a municipal Borough. In 1935, it became an urban district with full independence under the name of Ringwood City. On October 1, 1967, it merged with Paramus Township to form Paramus-Ringwood Township which is still headquartered here today within the limits set forth in its charter as defined hereinabove . On November 5th 1960 General Electric opened their new headquarters on Park Avenue in Paramus and they soon after hired many people from throughout NJ for various positions including John Fenton who would eventually become CEO Paramus-Ringwood township has always been a large community with plenty to offer its citizens; some notable places include: Paramus University (a large research university), PBF Energy (the largest natural gas company in NJ), Ford Motor Company's Hudson Yards Factory Campus located just outside town limits on ethane fuel pipelines that run through town hall plaza across from Ford's dealership complex - home to over 100 businesses - as well as numerous public parks such as Pascack Hills Open Space Preserve/Boulevard Park/Cedar Lawn Open Space Preserve within easy walking distance for residents and visitors alike
