On July 14th, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which designated the Coast Guard as an available service for nationals of Axis countries who could not be found within the United States or its territories. In 1946, Congress passed legislation authorizing the conversion of surplus vessels into coast guard vessels and this began what is known as the " Golden Age" of coast guard gift history. Ringwood was first settled by English colonists in the late 17th century and became a township in 1837. The borough was incorporated as a city on July 1, 1960, from portions of Township 3 east of Route 910. On December 15, 1984, it lost its status as a city when it merged with Newark to form the new Newark-Jersey City Mayoralty.
