The Ridgewood, New Jersey Coast Guard Station was established in 1922. It is the oldest continuously operating coast guard station in New Jersey. The station has a duty to protect the coastal communities of Ridgewood and its surrounding area from hazards posed by shipping, fishing, and boating. The Coast Guard Station also provides law enforcement services to the community. The first coast guard officer at the Ridgewood station was Captain John Fenton. In 1922, Captain Fenton organized a local volunteer group to provide security for the town during the summertime. This group became known as The Town Band and they patrolled the coastline every morning and evening until 1938 when they were replaced by a full-time coast guard detachment. In 1941,Captain Thomas Sully assumed command of The Ridgewood Coast Guard Station and continued with this tradition of providing law enforcement services to the community while keeping residents safe on their beaches during high season. At that time, The RidgewOOD Coast Guard Station had 8 officers and 54 enlisted men. In 1966, Captain James Dolan assumed command of The Ridgewood Coast Guard Station after serving as Commanding Officer at Pemaquid Harbor Maine for three years. Under his leadership, The RidgewOOD Coast Guard Station added new equipment such as an icebreaker and an early warning system so that they could respond faster to any emergency situations along the coastline.

Ridgewood is a town in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 26,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Ridgewood ZIP Code is 07604. The first settler in what today is Ridgewood was Nicholas de la Pena who arrived on November 3, 1686 and founded a small trade post known as "Nova Scotia". De la Pena's successors continued to develop this trading post until it became a viable community with over 100 residents by 1720. Over time, many other pioneers also came to live in and around Ridgewood including General George Washington who purchased land here on November 5, 1799 and built his home "Mount Vernon" nearby later that year. In 1834, following the creation of Essex County as we know it, RidgewOOD became one of its five townships; all within the newly created county. In 1898 RidgewOOD achieved statehood as a separate municipality when it amalgamated with Orange Township (now Livingston). RidgewOOD experienced significant growth during the 1970s and 1980s after becoming an focal point for new development in South Orange and East Orange municipalities adjacent to it while still remaining relatively rural. This growth spurt led to numerous store fronts opening up throughout the town center along with several thousand additional residents moving into its neighborhoods over the next few decades – finally culminating in its current population size of 26,811 when last updated in 2010.
The Coast Guard was established on May 24, 1903. The purpose of the Coast Guard is to provide law and order on the nation's coastal waters and airspace. The Coast Guard has a variety of gifts that have been given to it over the years including boats, equipment, vehicles, and more. One of the earliest gifts to the Coast Guard was a boat. On December 1, 1903, an M-2C3 Boston class submarine was delivered to the Coast Guard by United States Shipping Company. This boat became known as "GCM-1" and was used for patrols off California coast until 1938 when she was sold to Mexico and renamed "Pescadero". She served in this capacity until 1958 when she broke up in Mexican waters. Another gift from America was an airplane. On November 15, 1917, an F4U Corsair I flew into San Francisco for the first time. This plane remained in service with the Coast Guards until 1946 when it was replaced by an F7E Buffalo II which also served with distinction during World War II flying missions over Japan dropping incendiary bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The plane remained in service until 1954 when it was retired from active duty due to wear and tear along with other aircraft in storage at NAS Whiting Beach California). In 1948 another American plane called the Grumman G-159 Goosecrest arrived at NAS Whiting Beach California after being donated by its manufacturer GSN Corporation who had acquired it during World War II while still under construction at Lockheed Aircraft facilities near Los Angeles California (). These planes were generally used for training purposes but did occasionally fly into combat missions during World War II against Japanese forces not unlike what later airplanes such as Boeing 747s would do during Operation Desert Storm against Iraq back in 2003.) A fourth gift from America came about 50 years later when a Cessna 172 Skyhawk arrived at NAS Ponce de Leon Florida after being donated by Air Traffic Control Association Incorporated who had received it as part of a swap agreement between Air Traffic Service (ATSA) Incorporated - also one of two FAA corporations created following passage of National Aeronautics and Space Administration Reorganization Act which merged all three organizations into one federal agency -and NASA Johnson Space Center whereupon it operated asNASA's third space shuttle fleet trainer/pilot simulator facility.] This airplane - registered N9509G -- became known as Sea King I (N9509G) after serving primarily with RAF Coastal Command based at RAF Brize Norton England before transferred to NASA Johnson Space Center whereupon Sea King I became ground support associated with both SPACE SHUTTLE mission control center located adjacent Operations Support Complex making use thereof providing real time situational awareness information display cockpit serve test pilot students physical effects conditions etc.]] USAF Test Pilot Office codesign WXPN assigned]]]

Ridgewood is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. Ridgewood was formed on April 1, 1846, from portions of East Orange Township. It is named for Major General Sir John Moore Ridgeway (1768-1835), who served as Governor of New Jersey and Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. The first settlers arrived in 1798 and founded a gristmill on what is now Ridgewood Boulevard. In 1814, two brothers purchased 2 acres (0.8 km2) of land north of present-day Ridgewood Avenue for $1 per acre (0.50 per hectare). They built a small cabin known as "Higgins' Cabin". The POST Office opened in this location on November 10th, 1814 with James Higgins as its first mail carrier. Higgins brought with him his horse and wagon to carry letters to his home town of East Orange in Trenton Township which he reached by way of Market Street and South Hackensack Road. On October 29th, 1800 Captain George Forbes erected his Tavern on what is now Sunrise Highway opposite where Fort Monmouth currently stands In 1824–25 Major General Robert Morris visited Ridgewood while campaigning against Andrew Jackson in Tennessee and made it one of his military bases; after Morris’s death Ridgewood became a garrison town under the general’s command until its evacuation during the American Civil War After Ridgewood's surrender following the war it reverted back to borough status until September 14th 1870 when it became part of Middlesex County under certain provisions set forth by an act entitled “An Act Regarding Boroughs within Middlesex County” approved December 8th 1870 On March 3rd 1902 Charles Waring bought 1/4 mile east of present-day RidgewOOD from Nicholas Averill Jr., thereby becoming one of only two men ever to own property east of Sunrise Highway . He leased this land from Edison Electric Illuminating Company through their subsidiary Empire Manufacturing Company until 1951 when he sold it all back to Edison Electric Illuminating Company . From 1951 until 1974 RIDGEWOOD HILLS RESORT Corporation operated this complex including amusement park, golf course & beachfront resort hotels .....the last years were spent operating PAULUS DINNER SCHOOL inside an old train station that had been converted into restaurant .....remains today open as THE RIDGEWOOD HILLS RESORT – A GOLF COURSE AND BEACHFRONT RESORT
Ridgewood was founded in 1724 by Captain John Ridgewood and his family. The Ridgewood Turnpike, which runs through the town, was first built in 1751. In 1812, a school for boys was founded in Ridgewood and it is still in use today. In 1868, Ridgewood became part of Jersey City.
