Red Bank is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 18,402 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York metropolitan area. The area that now makes up Red Bank was first settled by the Dutch in 1664 and named "Rodenburgh", after nearby Rijeka (Rudolfstadt). In 1702, it was renamed for General George Washington as "New Brunswick". In 1836, it became part of the Township of Monmouth and was annexed to township form in 1868. The town's name comes from its red soil which turned green when wet during winter months. The earliest known buildings in Red Bank were built around 1702-1703 on what is now Main Street. At this time, there were only about 25 people living hereabouts and most residents worked on farms orchards or elsewhere near town center. By 1800, however, the number of residents had increased to 300 due to land purchases and other incentives from local leaders such as Governor Nicholas Evans and Mayor John Fenton along with encouragements from President James Ketcham who saw opportunity in Red Bank's potential as a port city for trade between New York City and points south. In 1836, Red Bank merged with neighboring West Orange into one municipality under the leadership of Mayor Samuel Wadleigh (1823-1867). This merger created what has been called "the most integrated community ever formed within a township." Within two years following incorporation, Red Bank had erected a schoolhouse/citizen’s meeting hall/ jail (now FirstEnergy Park), constructed four churches including one Methodist Church which replaced an earlier building destroyed by fire in 1848; opened several retail stores including an oven store operated by Asa Beard; established three banks; erected four blocks of homes; laid out streets leading to each block containing six row houses facing towards downtown across Second Avenue completed by 1830; commenced construction on what would become today's plaza offering space for public gathering as well as shops fronts on each side separated by wide alleys used for vehicular traffic only

Red Bank is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The ZIP code is 07652. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. Red Bank is one of the most economically distressed towns in New Jersey and has been declared by Forbes as one of the "100 most struggling communities" in America. It was once a booming center for industrial production but has seen its share ofeconomic decline due to competition from neighboring Newark and East Brunswick. Red Bank's history can be traced back to 1795 when two Frenchmen named Nicolas-Jacques Drouin and Pierre-Simon LaMotte founded a trading post on the southern border of Middlesex County known as Redbank Plantation. In 1814, John Gibbons purchased Redbank from Drouin for $10,000 and made it his home. Gibbons ran the plantation until his death in 1827. His son William took over the business after him and continued it until 1840 when he sold it to John Cohan who renamed it Cohanstown. In 1851, George Haddon bought Cohanstown from Cohan and operated it as an agricultural society before selling it to Jethro Gibbs in 1865 for $4,500 cash plus 3 acres (1 hectare) of land each year thereafter which became known as Gibbsland (). By 1870, there were only three families remaining at Gibbsland: that of Jethro Gibbs (the original owner), his wife Anna Maria (Nina) Parsons' parents Isaac Parsons Jr., widow Sarah King heirs to their father Isaac Parsons Sr., Mabel Morse (maiden name unknown) daughters of Abel Morse () – all living on less than $2 per day during those years (). On October 1st 1870, Abram Morse died intestate with no children under 21 years old so Anna Maria inherited her father's estate including all his property located east side of river Trenton between mile marker 518 & mile marker 620 near present day Rahway Junction NJ The family lived together at Hubbsland until they moved out in 1895 when they built their own house on what is now Fourth Street within walking distance of their old home on Gibbsland - this house still stands today! The first telephone service was available in Red Bank through Griggs Telephone Company on Third Avenue North about 1915 with rates starting at $3 per month/year! Widespread poverty characterized much of early 20th century New Jersey such as here; men worked long hours 12 or 13 hours/day without break while women did all laundry/household tasks outside even during daylight! A grocery store opened up about 1920 just south side intersection 4th Ave N & 2nd St NW opposite high school - prices ranged from $0-$5 per week! Electricity wasn't available everywhere until 1939! World War II started and many businesses closed because resources were scarce; however 10% reduction in electricity rates helped some businesses survive However by 1945 almost all businesses had closed except one small grocery store which reopened after war ended
