Ramsey was founded in 1837 by Colonel John Ramsey and his wife, Sarah. It became an incorporated municipality on July 1, 1951. They were the first police department in that area and started out with three officers. The Ramseys continued to run the department until it merged with neighboring Newton Township on July 1, 1951. Ramsey is a town located in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,611 at the 2010 census. Ramsey has been part of the New York Metropolitan Area since its merger with New York City on September 17, 2016. It is bordered by Newark to the south and east, Paterson to the north and west, and Middletown to the northwest. The first residents of what would become Ramsey were Native Americans who hunted game in the area now known as Union County. In 1824 European settlers arrived in what is today Ramsey from Canandaigua Township in upstate New York after crossing the Delaware River into Pennsylvania via Trenton. At that time there were only two settlements in Union County: Canandaigua and Elizabethtown (now Elizabeth). The first settler in Ramsey was David Herron who bought land from George Washington Crossing between 1825 and 1830. He named his farm Herron's Plains after his father-in-law John Herron who had helped him purchase land along the Susquehanna River. By 1830 there were twenty-one families living in Ramsey according to one source; however, by 1840 there were just six families remaining because of competition among farmers for land around bend where a new road was being built through central Union County. In 1854 local resident James Gillespie decided to form a village near where he still lives on Herron's Plains today as a stop on his horseback ride throughout western Union County which he called "Gillespie's Valley." On November 5, 1855 when RAMSEY HISTORY & REMINISCENCE COOPERATIVE SOCIETY Inc., organized under this name met at Mr. Gillespie's home for organizational purposes it became known as "Ramsey." On October 26th 1862 AGRICULTURE AND FOOD COMMISSIONER WILLIAM CRAWFORD approved plans for an agricultural fair which opened at Tryonville on November 3rd 1862 under license from THE STATE OF NEW YORK FOR THE FAIRS OF ALL COUNTY'S AGENCIES INCLUDING RAMSEY . That same year EASTON RANDOLPH donated property adjacent to Tryonville Village Green which became home of Easton Randolph School District No 1 - renamed Westwood Elementary School - pursuant to an act of Congress entitled "An Act To Establish Schools In Certain Towns Within The Unorganized Territory Of New York" (1862), Pp 827 et seq., chaptered "An Act Concerning Education". From 1863 until 1870 no school districts existed within present day Ramsey Township due to lack of money or interest from neighboring townships; however all schools within present day Ramseys boundaries started operating between 1870 and 1875 when section 2nd avenue Road connecting Rahway Heights with northernbound NJ 28 came into operation making it possible for people living near those schools access education without traveling far away! In 1893 William Jaffe founded Jaffe Brothers grocery store which remains open today as one of America’s oldest full line grocers with over $350 million worth of annual sales including products sold online On July 9th 1936 during World War II local resident Harry Kapp joined forces with other American citizens protesting against racial discrimination by Nazi Germany through Operation Reinhardt resulting in Kapp Field being renamed “Ramsey Municipal Airport” effective immediately following World War II while most other airports across America continue using their original names such as Newark Liberty International Airport or JFK Airport

However, it wasn't until 1933 when police started giving radios as gifts. This was likely because radio technology allowed for better communication between officers and citizens. Additionally, it is interesting to note that although police have always been given gift baskets, it wasn't until 1959 when they started gifting cars as presents. This was likely due to the fact that cars gave officers an opportunity to travel more easily and investigate suspicious situations.

Ramsey was founded in 1781 by John Ramsey and his brother, Nicholas. The Ramseys were early settlers in this area, and John Ramsey built the first business in what is now Ramsey. In 1814, he erected a small log cabin near what is now the intersection of Routes 9 and 20. He also started a large dairy farm that produced milk for local markets and supplied homes throughout the township. In 1832, John Ramsey married Maria Hays, who was from nearby Paramus. The couple raised four children: Samuel (1833-1920), Anna (1835-1901), Clara (1838-1924) and John Fenton Ramsey Sr. (1849-1925). They also operated a small grocery store on Main Street in town until it closed in 1951. In 1903, they purchased an adjacent two-story frame house on Route 9 for $1,000. It served as their home until their death in 1925. Their son John Fenton Jr., who later became Governor of New Jersey and Ulysses S Grant's ambassador to Spain, resided at the house during his father's lifetime. John Fenton Ramsey Sr.'s legacy continued through his son John Fenton Jr., who was born in 1927 and became governor of New Jersey when his father died in 1925; he also served as Ulysses S Grant's Ambassador to Spain from 1987 to 1993 Maria Hays' legacy continued through her daughter Clara Hays Peterson which opened its doors for the first time on October 15th 1984 ."Clara Hays Peterson: A Pioneer Canadian Daughter" by Darlene Weisman
Ramsey was founded in 1796 by Nicholas Ramsey and his wife Elizabeth. The first settlers were farmers who leased land from the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The town was named for Nicholas Ramsey, one of the original settlers. The first school was built in 1814. In 1824, Ramsey became a borough and was renamed for John Pemberton, an Englishman who had settled in New Jersey in 1686.
