The Rahway Coast Guard Station has been providing maritime security and law enforcement services to the community since 1907. The Station is a vital part of the Rahway Police Department and was instrumental in helping keep Rahway safe during Hurricane Sandy. Rahway, New Jersey is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 25,672 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington metropolitan area. Rahway was incorporated as a borough on April 15, 1874. On February 28, 1898, it became a city under the name of Rahway Heights. On May 30th of the same year it changed its name to Rahway and annexed parts of neighboring Township Brookside. The population peaked at 33,812 in 1990 and has been decreasing since then with only 24,434 residents as of 2018[1]. The first settler in what is now Rahway was John Purdy who arrived on July 7th 1784 from Bucks County PA via Gloucester County NJ.[2] He built a cabin along the Hackensack River and named his property "Purdy's Valley".[3] The first post office opened in 1875 with Wm Fenton as Postmaster. In 1888 the name change to Rahway Heights due to popular demand[4]. By 1910 there were already over 20 businesses located in downtown Rahway[5]. During World War II there was an increase in manufacturing due to abundance of supplies available from America’s allies[6] but this quickly declined following 1945 when America entered into war against Japan[7]. In 2009-2010 Mayor Michael Nieves announced that they had reached an agreement with their oldiante which allowed them to close 9 business locations within their borders effective January 1st 2010 through December 31st 2010 without any notice or fanfare; only affected employees were given information about the closures while other customers either continued using those businesses or received refreshments during their time off workconnecting them back into business when they returnedHenceforth known as “The Closing Sale”Mayor Nieves said: “We felt that these closures would allow us to focus our energy on more important things such as infrastructure projects and economic development within our community rather than having all our attention focused on one single source of revenue” [8][9][10][11][12][13]; however City Council member Patrice Vaughan stated that she opposed this measure stating that it would be difficult for small businesses owners/employees not impacted by these closings to reopen because “the reopening period will be very difficult if not impossible without assistance from outside entities likeriexisting businesses or friends who have lent us support throughout these past few years” [14]; ultimately no action was taken after Mayor Nieves' announcement despite public outcry from local business owners towards what they saw as an unfair decision

Rahway is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now Rahway were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1664. They named their new settlement after the river where they had been trading goods with Native Americans for years prior. On December 12, 1676, Captain John Smith and his party of Englishmen reached Wallkill River and discovered an extensive land grant from King Charles II of England to Sir George Carteret and others including Nicholas Myles. The grant included 2,500 acres (1 km2) on which Rahway was founded. On July 26, 1788, during the American Revolutionary War, British forces under General James Lord Cornwallis attacked Rahway from three directions simultaneously; however as no one seemed to be attacking from the rear or flank any troops loyal to America emerged victorious instead routing Cornwallis’s army. The Battle of Rahway took place not far from present-day nightingale Road which served as a ceremonial battlefield after General Howe’s victory at Trenton Heights near Princeton Junction on September 3 that year. Aftermath of this engagement saw over 50 killed by enemy fire while more than 150 were captured or taken prisoner including Generals Cornwallis and Howe himself who were both successfully defended by militia led by Colonel John Armstrong who managed to confiscate many supplies being carried away by Cornwallis’s men before they finally retreated back home across Paterson River without ever achieving their original objective all due to lack of support coming downriver from Trenton Heights rather than opposing British forces ashore on Manhattan mainland which should have spotted them coming as they crossed over Paterson River Westward bound instead allowing them unimpeded passage eastward across Hackensack Ferry into Princeton Junction without any resistance whatever thus resulting in largest strategic defeat suffered by British Army up until then with vast majority executed or otherwise lost such as Lieutenant Colonel John Armstrong thereby becoming only second person ever convicted for treason in United Kingdom after Edwardstown Massacre victim Samuel Adams
The Rahway Valley is a long and narrow valley located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The valley was formed by the merged waters of the Hackensack River and the Mifflin River. The name was derived from an Algonquian word meaning "place where many trees grow." The first inhabitants of what is now Rahway were the Lenape Indians. The area that became Rahway was part of Dutch New Netherland until 1701, when it passed to Great Britain as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. In 1764, after the Battle of White Plains, British General Howe captured Rahway and its surrounding areas, including parts of Monmouth County. The land was divided into three tracts and given to various settlers. One parcel went to John Armstrong; another parcel went to James Priestly; while the last tract went to Isaac Greenough. In 1814, Abraham Lincoln received a grant from Lord North for 640 acres (2 km²) in what is now Rahway Township. In 1825, he sold 10% share in this grant to James Fenton for $5 per acre ($253 per km²). In 1827, Northeastern Railroad began construction through Monmouth County and purchased some land along its route from Abraham Lincoln's heirs. This allowed them access to markets in Philadelphia andNew York City. As a result, construction on Northeast's first locomotive factory began at a site near present-day Union Station in 1828 and continued until 1840; these locomotives were used on passenger trains between Newark and New York City). This success led Northeast Railway Company to build a much larger facilities at an existing mill southwest of Newark about 1 mile (1 km) west-northwest of present-day Union Station in 1830–31; this facility became known as Trenton Terminal Village (now called Trenton State University). In 1850 East Jersey Railroad began service through Monmouth County from Elizabethtown via Millville Junction; this allowed goods traffic between Elizabethtown and points eastward without crossing Delaware Bay or passing through Princeton Junction on the way outbound. This traffic led Trenton Terminal Village into decline because travelers bypassed it for more conveniences accessible by rail at Newark Airport today than they did before 1850s when it was within easy walking distance from Manhattan's financial district - but still within commuting reach by car or bus! In 1865–66 local resident George Wetherington erected one of several large stone archways that survive today near Old Bridge across Main Street in Trenton Terminal Village - originally built as part of Wetherington & Sons' grocery store which stood adjacent to their terminal buildings Girdersand Grains Mills but now demolished with all traces removed leaving only foundations remaining visible above ground indicating that this once imposing structure once housed one or more significant structures located inside what is now known as United States Capitol Rotunda complex located just north side Of Independence Hall Drive across From Washington MonumentGirdersand Grains Mills Complex also extant rear facing wall still standing visible
