There is no doubt that the Army has a long and proud history in Rahway, New Jersey. The city was named for General John Sullivan, who fought in the American Revolution. The town was also the home of the first unit of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment, which fought during the America's Civil War. In 1881, Rahway became one of 20 towns in New Jersey to become part of the newly formed state of New York. In 1912, Rahway annexed portions of East Brunswick Township and became known asRahway Township. In 1913, Rahway Township voted to annex West Paterson Township and become known as West Paterson Township. On November 3rd, 1914, Rahway officially became an independent municipality with its own government and mayor/council. The Army began deploying troops to Rahway in World War I on October 1st, 1917. The first troop deployment occurred at Camp Sherman (later Fort Monmouth) located on what is now Route 17 near present-day East Brunswick Boulevard. At that time only men were deployed; however, since then increasing numbers of women have been deployments to various units around NJ and abroad! As World War II progressed there were larger deployments with more troops including tanks and artillery! In 1945-46 there was another large deployment with over 6500 troops! Since then numerous events have taken place such as Mardi Gras celebrations (2007), Bastille Day celebrations (2010), Independence Day Celebrations (2011), Christmas & Easter holidays (2012-2013), St Patrick's day celebration 2013-2014; PECOTA games 2014; functions related to military funerals or memorial services including fetes for members' families 2009-2013; community service projects such as painting lanes onRoute 17(2009); erection of a monument dedicated to veterans at Hometown Cemetery(2012). And many more events still take place every year throughout our township!

Rahway, New Jersey is a town located in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 15,812 at the 2010 census. Rahway was founded in 1824 by Germans immigrants who arrived from Prussia. It became an incorporated town on February 14, 1881. The first settler in Rahway was Johann Baptist Heinrich Hirschbacher who arrived in 1824 and settled near what is now the intersection of Route 9 and Main Street. On April 10, 1830, Johannes Weisse landed on Rutgers University's campus with his family and set out to find land for himself and them. He soon found a tract of land that he named "Herschelowne" after his father-in-law Herschel Weinreb (1759–1835), one of the original settlers in Rahway Township along with David Rector (1768–1838) and Abraham Deutschmann (1775–1845). In 1848 John Fenton built a cabin on the site of what is now First Presbyterian Church which served as the nucleus for what would become Rahway. In 1865, James Jarrell purchased 73 acres from Abel Hoffman which included present day First Presbyterian Church Road. By 1870 there were over 50 houses in Rahway with 1 ½ miles of road providing goods and services to residents including schools, churches and mills along with taverns such as The Dutchman's Tavern on Main Street across from First Presbyterian Church where beer was sold until it closed its doors around 1920 due to prohibition efforts by then Governor George Wallace. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town had a total area of 6 square miles (15 km2), including 5 square miles (13 km2) of water frontage. As of 2010, there were 15,812 people residing within the township limits; 7% were foreign born citizens; 71% spoke English as their first language; 11% German; 2% Italian; 1% Spanish; 0% Polish
On July 1, 1777, the Township of Rahway was established by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. The township was named for General John Rahway, who had fought in the American Revolution.
