The United States Air Force deployed a gift to Rahway, New Jersey on Dec. 25, 1941 in commemoration of the America’s entry into World War II. The gift was an airplane bomber named “F-4U Corsair.” The F-4U Corsair was donated by the Wright brothers and flew for the United States Navy during World War II. The plane was used as an attack aircraft and can be considered one of the most successful fighter planes in history. The history of the Deployed GiftHistory goes back to 1942 when General George C Marshall established the Overseas Pacific Command (OPC) which included five bases in Japan: Clark Field on Guam, Yuma Proving Ground on Arizona’s west side, Iwajima Naval Air Station on Okinawa, Kure Naval Base on Kyushu Island, and Saipan Island offof Japan’s main island Honshu. In December 1941, upon America’s entry into World War II, General Arnold ordered all branches of U.S armed forces to send goods and materials far beyond what had ever been sent before- items such as tires, gasoline cans, radios/TV sets/cables etc., even aircraft parts! As war unfolded it became increasingly evident that airfields would become critical for strategic bombing raids against Nazi Germany; however there was still no confirmed method for delivering goods directly to German troops at war fronts without being detected or interfered with by Axis troops stationed within range! In answer to this need generals developed Operation Crossroads which was spearheaded by General Curtis LeMay who advocated using commercial airlines instead of military transports because “the enemy will not dare cross a busy airport full of American bombers!” However due to political sensitivities this plan was never put into action! On 20th January 1945 Rear Admiral Harry Hylandbeck signed orders ordering all uniformed members (civilians as well as military) over 18 years old joined the Armed Forces at once!!! This directive marked the beginning of a new era in gift history where individuals could now give appreciated gifts outside of Combat Service Awards or special occasions! This order caused some consternation among many shopkeepers because they felt they did not yet have enough employees available to handle such large Orders!!!! Unfortunately this directive led eventually to shortages throughout 1946 & 1947 !! Fortunately things changed starting in 1948 when USAF command authorized issuance OF GCAR's which allowed civilian members (& spouses) up until then only able to buy Ammunitions & Apparel!!!!!! From then on any item(not just munitions) capable Of Attainting A Useful Purpose Could BE Purchased!!!!! Needless To say most everyone involved soon got quite used To Buying Gifts For Our Troops!!!!!!!!

Rahway was founded in 1765 by John Rahway and his wife Elizabeth. The town was named for the Dutch word "rijk", meaning rich. In 1834, Rahway became a county seat of Hunterdon County. It has since been renamed to honor its founder, John Rahway. The first settlers in what is now Rahway were farmers who arrived from the Netherlands in the early 1750s. They built their homes on small farms that they cleared and cultivated with their own hands. By 1800, however, many of these pioneer families had moved away and new settlers had begun to arrive from outside of New Jersey. These newcomers brought with them their traditional farming methods and culture, which helped influence the growth of Rahway over time. In 1834, when Hunterdon County was formed out of portions of Middlesex and Monmouth counties, it included part of what is nowRahway Township. At that time,Hunterdon County consisted mostly of open land along the Susquehanna River where people could see deer orchards and hogs roam free. This condition changed soon after when some wealthy landowners decided to build up this rural area into a manufacturing center by developing factories for goods such as cotton textiles and shoes. As Factory Township developed over time, it attracted more people and businesses to its boundaries; this led to increased development aroundRahway Station on the old Ulster Railroad line which served as an important transportation hub for local products throughout central New Jersey during the 19th century.
