The New Jersey National Guard was organized on December 16, 1776. The unit was first called the 1st Regiment of Militia but on May 7, 1777 it was reorganized as the 2nd Regiment of Militia. The regiment served in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. On November 10, 1898, the regiment was redesignated as the 3rd Regiment of Militia and duplicate raised to serve two years with no call-up for service in that time frame. In 1902, the regiment was again redesignated as the 4th (New Jersey) Regiment of Militia and duplicated to serve four years with no call-up for service in that time frame. Additionally on October 15, 1906, a new battalion was raised from members of both regiments that would form part of America's First Infantry Brigade which activated on November 5th at Morristown NJ under command Major General George Washington Hancock
Pleasantville is a small town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Trenton-Ewing metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Pleasantville were Dutch Americans who came to America in 1664 and 1685. They founded the village of Montresor on the site of present-day Pleasantville. Early 1st century AD Jews settled in what is now Pleasantville, some from Passaic County NJ and others from Middlesex County NJ. In 1812, Isaac Meyer purchased land in what is now Pleasantville from Nicholas Scherrer for $2,000 (about ). He laid out a grid pattern for the village which included three roads that ran east-west, north-south and south-east/northwest. In 1815, George Washington visited the village while on his way to Mount Vernon where he was inauguration President. Washington spent time at Meyer's home playing cards with his friends and dining on refreshments served by Meyer's maidservants. When he returned to Washington's Mount Vernon estate after his inauguration, he ordered one of his slaves to take delivery of a large shipment of potatoes that had arrived by wagonloads from Westchester County NY - an event which has been referred to as "the firstunctional trip" by historians." This incident helped spread word about America's new nation through early travelers who stopped in Pleasantville en route between New York City and Philadelphia during this period

Pleasantville is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Newark-Trenton metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Pleasantville were Dutch immigrants who arrived in 1676 and founded a small community on Manor Road. In 1812, the Town of Mercer was established within present day Pleasantville by merging several villages along the Delaware River: Easton, West Chester, and White Sands. The name Mercer was derived from "Marengo", one of the four sons of Colonel John Forbes (1594–1666). In 1838, during the American Civil War, Pleasantville became known as "The Arsenal" because it furnished munitions for Union forces. On November 17 that year General George McClellan's army passed through Pleasantville on its way to Trenton. On March 8, 1874, when Hunterdon County was formed from portions of Middlesex and Monmouth counties, Pleasantville became a part of that county; however it reverted back to Mercer Township on January 1st following an election held in that jurisdiction only days earlier which resulted in no candidates getting more than 50% of the vote. In 1907 Morris Chafin opened his grocery store at 9th and Cedar Streets which quickly grew into one of Hunterdon County's largest stores with over 100 employees including managers and assistants. Morris Chafin also served as president pro tempore of theHunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1912 until his death in 1925. From 1922 until his death he also served as mayor pro tempore and chaired both houses of the board responsible for government operations in boroughs located within Hunterdon County such as South Harrison Township eastward to Middletown Township northward to Caldwell Borough (now Edison), Ambler Borough (now Allentown), Passaic Borough (now Paterson), Haines Township (now Glassboro) & White Sands Borough (now East Brunswick). He remains memorialized with a statue outside his grocery store today still functioning as its original cashier’s office where customers could withdraw money prior to purchase transactions or withdraw cash advances available during times when banks were not open due to prohibition laws then existing in America . Morris Chafin Elementary School bears his name which serves students grades PreK- 6th grade across all grades through 12th grade today
Pleasantville was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Applegate and his wife, Susannah. The town was named after thepleasant hill in England that they visited on their honeymoon. The Applegates were Oneida natives who had recently arrived in America and established themselves as farmers and traders. Pleasantville grew rapidly, becoming a tiny village by 1820. In 1848, Pleasantville became the location of the first successful production of cotton ginned yarn in America. The mill was built on the site of an older mill that had been destroyed by a fire two years earlier. In 1870, the family of James Kapp bought the mill and continued to operate it until it closed in 1944. A large part of Pleasantville's history is due to its role as a key center for lacemaking during the late 19th century. Today, there are few traces remaining of Pleasureville's early days as a thriving community; most of what remains date from when it was incorporated as a borough in 1912.
