The Phillipsburg Naval Shipyard was founded in 1875 as a small shipyard on the riverfront in downtown Phillipsburg. It quickly became one of the leading naval shipyards in the United States, and later played an important role in World War II. The yard produced warships for both America and Great Britain, and also produced submarines, jets, and other military hardware. Today, the yards continue to produce vessels for both American and British fleets, as well as providing support services to many maritime corporations throughout the world. One of the most famous warships built at Phillipsburg was USS Constitution – one of only four U.S.-built ships to serve in World War II. The Constitution was nearly doubled in size thanks to advances in technology during World War II, becoming one of the largest warships ever constructed by the United States Navy. She served alongside such renowned warships as HMS Hood (temporary flagship of RN Battle Squadron 5) and HMS Nelson (the first warship classed with nuclear weapons). The yard also played a important role during peacetime too – producing vessels for various government agencies including Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, Public Safety Service, Fire Department etc. However it became all-but-destroyed during World War II when naval resources were diverted towards making war machines rather than repairing ships or building new ones. Nevertheless,Phillipsburg’s naval shipbuilding legacy continues today with numerous boats being produced at our facility that are used by major sea nations all over the world

Phillipsburg is a town located in Warren County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,452. The name Phillipsburg comes from John Phillips and his family's grant from Lord Dunmore to Nicholasea which included the present-day town of Philipsburg. The first settler in what is now Phillipsburg was Nicholasea (now known as Northumberland) who arrived about 1698. The community of Phillipsburg was organized on November 3, 1814 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature under the name of Shawneetown Township. On May 10, 1825, it became part of Warren County when it was formed from parts of Morris and Sussex counties. The first post office in Phillipsburg opened on December 7, 1824. It was renamed Mount Holly on January 1, 1840; Mount Pleasant on November 6, 1850; and finally Phillipsburgh on March 15th, 1858. The primary industry in Phillipsburgh during its early years were farming and manufacturing products such as clothiers' raw materials and finished goods for local merchants. This changed with the development of shipbuilding during World War II because shipbuilders needed large quantities of accurate parts to build American submarines During the late 1920s through to the 1990s there were many small businesses that operated out of homes or factories adjacent to main roads in Philipsburgh including shoe stores (including Sears), a bakery (Eveready), a clothing store (Janesboro), a meat market (Sears & Roebuck), an ice cream shop (Frosty Funes), various hardware stores including A&P Hardware and Jensensen's Hardware before consolidation took place as these businesses moved into larger buildings along Main Street over time culminating with Jensensen's being converted into a full restaurant called Joe's Pizza which operates today within view of Interstate 95
