The Coast Guard Museum in Perth Amboy, New Jersey is home to one of the most extensive collections of Coast Guard memorabilia in the United States. The museum has been operated by the United States Coast guard since 1916 and preserves both history and culture related to the coast guard. One of the more interesting aspects of the Coast Guard Museum’s collection is its collection of gifts from members of the public. Many people donated items such as clothes, food, or toys in order to support their favorite branch of service. Some donations were even more special, such as a crewcut that was given to then-Mayor Raymond L. Flynn by a group of devotees during his inauguration on January 6, 1978. Another notable gift from an individual was a life jacket that was given to then-Majestic Airways Flight 9191 captained by Captian Phillip Serna after it crash landed on Long Beach Island on December 21st, 1986. This particular gift marked an important milestone for both Captains Serna and Air National Guard helicopter pilot Lt.(jg) John Griggs who had flown Odd Fellows Lodge #8 – also known as “The Wise Men” – into landing on Long Beach Island for Christmas services that year.

Perth Amboy, New Jersey is a borough located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,554. The borough was formed on April 1, 2000 from portions of West Orange and Harrisonburg Township. It is part of the Philadelphia-based media market. Perth Amboy was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1824 as a small community known as Bangor Plantation on the east bank of the Raritan River. In 1829, Bangor Plantation was renamed Perth Amboy after General Sir John Forbes whose forces helped win independence for England from Denmark. In 1800, Peter Hahn purchased land at what is now Old Bridge Road and Broadway in Perth Amboy Township from Nicholas Resnick and his family for $10 per acre. Hahn named his new village after himself - "Perth" meaning "place where I landed." The first settler to arrive in what is now Perth Amboy were three brothers - Lewis (Lew) Dillingham, George Dillingham & John Morse - who arrived on horseback from Essex County on July 24, 1800. They built a log cabin on some trees near today's Main Street and named their new settlement "Newburgh." A year later they moved to their present location and began construction of a gristmill which they operated until 1802 when it was destroyed by a flood that caused extensive damage to their property. The milling industry soon disappeared due to competition from other mills in southeastern Pennsylvania; however, it left an lasting mark on the community with its distinctive redbrick buildings still standing today. :During the 1830s two other Scotsmen also immigrated to America – Donald McIntosh (Doonan) and Alexander Macdonald (Mackenzie). Donald McIntosh started out as a logger but he soon became successful enough to open his own lumber business in 1840 which he called "Canandaigua Lumber Company". Headed by Angus MacDonald (Macdonald), this company grew into one of America's most powerful lumber interests before finally folding around 1860 due to economic conditions within Canada/USSR rivalry during that time period.( see Timeline: Early American settlers) In 1829 Harry Marriott bought 2 lots along Broadway between Canandaigua Avenue & Tryon Street for $25 each., naming them Indianapolis Bluffs after Indiana’s capital city – “the blooming bridegroom” according to one account.(see below) Harry Marriott had been born at Newport News Va., USA in 1792 just prior to Confederation there becoming United States Of America under George Washington (1789-1801). On 15 April 1830 he married Anna Placeholder(Packer). Their only child Anna married Isaac Deacon(Deacon) who also settled here about 1830 & raised 4 children here including James Charles Marriott Jr., Edwin Arlington Darlington & Harriot Elizabeth Deacon.(see below)(see also James Charles Marriott Sr.) James Charles Marriott Sr.,better known as JCS or Jimmy Chappell resided hereabouts 1870-1915 inclusive when this area attained notoriety thru WWI because many high ranking Canadian Captains were incarcerated here during World War 1 including David Lloyd Anderson aka Red Baron German WW1 flyer ) posthumously . After serving 3 years 5 months internment campmrn #OWS EdmontonAlberta during WWII @ POW camp #NovoAlbuquerque .Jimmy chappell passed away Feb 1916 aged 81 approximately 9 months old while living mostly rural Atascosa Co TX then moving back home ranches throughout NW Texas until his death Jan 1945 aged 96yrs old .) Also resident locally through early 1920s probably employed local man doing odd jobs such as handyman etc although details are unknown

The earliest Coast Guard units were established in 1917 when the United States Congress created the Department of Homeland Security. The Coast Guard was first organized as a militia in 1915 and was originally called the Revenue Cutter Service. The Coast Guard's mission is to protect America's coasts, seas, and waterways by performingSearch and rescue missions, enforcing laws and regulations related to maritime safety, conducting law enforcement operations, providing medical assistance, and participating in other essential functions. In 1951, the U.S. Congress passed General Order No. 1 which defined the duties of members of the Coast Guard while on duty ashore or afloat outside of Washington D.C., including those who acted as auxiliaries to military forces operating within American waters or on foreign shores beyond our borders In 1975, Congress amended General Order No. 1 defining special duties for various types of vessels used by member agencies during emergencies or natural disasters In 1988, President Reagan issued Executive Order 13722 which directed all Federal agencies with jurisdiction over coastal areas including the Coast Guard to develop an integrated coastal security program that included both law enforcement activities and search and rescue capabilities In 1995,President Clinton signed Executive Order 12958 which authorized Heads of Federal Agencies with Jurisdiction Over Coastal Areas To Make Cost-Effective Improvements To Search And Rescue Capabilities Within Their respective jurisdictions This order also directed Federal funding for this integrated coastal security effort

In 2006, the Coast Guard gifted a set of four ice skaters to local high school students in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In 2013, the Coast Guard gave away 11 donated bicycles to schoolchildren in Sewickley Heights Township, Pennsylvania.
Perth Amboy was founded in 1714 by the Dutch as a trading post on the Delaware River. It became an English town in 1834 and was named after Perth, Scotland, where Sir John A. Macdonald was born in 1815. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was incorporated as a township in 1886. In 1927, Perth Amboy merged with neighboring Sayreville to form the current borough of Perth Amboy. The first settler in Perth Amboy landed on September 12, 1714 on the site now known as North Ferry Road and Old Bridge Road. He was Nicholas de Vries from Holland and his wife Anna van der Veer, who also came overland from Amsterdam. Nicolas' brother-in-law Cornelis Huygens also visited that year and landed at North Ferry Road. In 1715, two more settlers arrived: Hendrik Bogaerts from Rotterdam and Johannes Vorster from Drenthe. They erected a small log cabin near what is now South Ferry Road and built a wharf to provide water for their ship vessels coming downriver to trade with Native Americans near the confluence of the Delaware River and Trenton Creek (now called Mill creek). This early settlement is documented by Captain David Woolridge aboard his vessel "Dolphin" while he traversed the river during his summer trip downriver to provide goods for French traders upriver at Fort Duquesne (present day Philadelphia) in 1716-1717. In 1718, another group of Dutch colonists arrived at North Ferry Road: Jan Claeszoon Verbruggen from Utrecht and his wife Johanna Staudemaeker from Amsterdam; they had married earlier that year while Philip Besteck lived nearby at White Marsh Landing on Burlington Bayou opposite points West Deptford Township). From this early arrivals some fifty families moved into Perth Amboy between September 1802 and December 1800 including twenty five children of Jan Verbruggen & Johanna Staudemaeker (born circa 1700). As more families arrived they began developing land around what is now downtown; some fields were developed cooperatively while others were homesteaded by individual farmers until prices for farmland increased along with transportation connections via ferries to New York City made farming less expensive during times of economic recession or war/production shortages caused by embargoing countries like England . By 1850 there were over 1,500 people living in Perth Amby
Perth Amboy was founded in 1732 by John Perth and his wife, Susannah. The town became a fullfledged city in 1873. In 1912, Perth Amboy became the site of the first permanent United States military installation in New Jersey when Fort Monmouth was established there.
