The National Guard of North Arlington, New Jersey was organized on September 14, 1914. The purpose of the National Guard was to provide a nucleus of trained and mobilized reservists for the protection of the state. The first unit to be activated in North Arlington was Company D of the 6th Regiment Infantry (New Jersey Volunteer). In 1916, companies A and E were organized from soldiers from Newark who had been called up for World War I. In 1918, Companies F and G were activated. After World War I, the National Guard became an all-volunteer organization and there were no longer any company activation ceremonies. In 1924, companies H and J were organized from soldiers from Elizabeth and Hamilton townships in Somerset County. In 1927, Companies K through N were organized and Company P became operational that year. In 1931, a detachment of Company L arrived in North Arlington after being activated at Atlantic City Naval Air Station as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear which aimed to quell public protest against military exercises taking place near Manhattan Bridgehead on Long Island Sound. That detachment eventually disbanded in 1933 but its history is chronicled by Captain Julius Berman who served as commander during their stay in town: “Lacking any better means than talking directly to men about their thoughts or feelings we did what seemed best at the time—talking into radios sets at night while lying prone on our couches rather than going outside into full view where people could see us…We found that much more comfort living close to home with constant communication with others inside our own little world instead of having it surrounds us day and night like everyone else” (Berman 9).” However, this activity did not last long as they received orders NOT TO CONFRONT THE PUBLIC AGAIN until AFTER THE WEATHER CHANGED! This event is significant because it marked the first time that members of the militia had ever been called up foractive duty within their community! subsequent mobilization campaigns during World War II led to even more unit activation opportunities for local residents; however these events also occurred outside of town limits so few know about them today. On July 4th 1946 units C&D 1st Battalion NJG(76) & HQ/Light Armored Force NewJersey contingent depart from Trenton Airport on armored personnel carrier USS Constitution En route Newark Liberty International Airport following exercise Abraham Lincoln which focused attention off main highways towards small villages surrounding Trenton due to fears riots might occur

The North Arlington National Guard was activated on November 5, 1940. The first unit to come through the activation process was the 143rd Infantry Regiment, which arrived in New Jersey on December 1st. As time went on, more and more units were brought through the activation process. Eventually, the North Arlington National Guard had a full complement of infantry battalions and artillery batteries. In 1951, the Guardsmen became part of the United States Army Reserve under control of the Army's General Staff. In 1957, they were re-activated as an active duty unit within the New Jersey National Guard when President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorized their creation as a reserve arm for state militia organizations statewide. Since 1998, when Hurricane Floyd struck North Arlington and damage occurred to many of its buildings and equipment (most notably an ammunition dump), much of this history has been reconstructed at nearby Battlefield Park in Monmouth County where much of WWI & II activity took place around Monmouth Junction
North Arlington is a town in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 13,824 at the 2010 census. North Arlington is located near Newark and Elizabethtown. The first Europeans to visit what is now North Arlington were Dutch traders who landed there in 1675 on the site of present-day Red Bank. In 1732, Jonathan Cartwright founded a small community here called Newtown which he later renamed Cartwrightville after himself. The first white settler in North Arlington was James Robertson who arrived in 1784. He built a house on the corner of Prospect Avenue and Route 9 East and named it North Arlington after his home village of Auchterarder, Scotland. In 1814 George Washington visited this area while campaigning for election to the U.S. Senate from New York; he stopped at Robertsons' house for dinner before continuing his campaign overland toonne southward to Trenton where he remained that night at the State House before returning by boat the next morning to Albany under cover of darkness (the last time an American president had ever been seen traveling without protection). Robertson's grandson John Robertson erected a windmill on Prospect Road in 1847 which still stands today as one of only two remaining examples of its type still functioning in America (the other being located at Ridgeway Mill Museum inScotland). In 1892–93, Mr./Mrs."Dick" Brinker built what becameKnown as "The White House", now known as Princeton University's Old Main building., also becoming one of only a handful of buildings constructed entirely with wood during that period nationwide- most notably Noe Valley Methodist Church located nearby within walking distance on South Orange Street & West Indian Hill Rd.) Also during this time frame construction began on what would become known as "The Mall", north side connecting Van Dyke Road/Route 9 with Prospect Avenue/Route 202 east side reaching Northbridge Avenue/Elmwood Drive) This project was successful enough that both streets received their current name following much speculation among residents about which road – originally called "The Mall" – should be given its new name since so many people living near Van Dyke Road & Route 202 thought it should be called "Mall". The original plans included extending Elmwood Drive all the way to Interstate 95 but were postponed due to budget constraints when I-95 was built approximately 1 mile away! This mall project would come full circle years later when then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani announced plans for an additional expressway through town center adjacent to existing Routes 202 & 9 east of Route 206 (& across from The White House), eventually becoming known as I-95 and resulting in much criticism from residents who felt they had lost something they never wanted: their shopping district!

North Arlington was first settled in the early 1800s by Dutch and English immigrants who were looking for land to grow their crops and build homes. The area became an important industrial center during the late 19th century as factories grew up around it. After World War II, North Arlington experienced growth thanks to its ties to the military and its location close to New York City. Today, the area is home to many different businesses and residents, including many people from outside of New Jersey.
