The Marine Museum of North Arlington is a nonprofit, public-private partnership that seeks to promote awareness and understanding of the maritime history of New Jersey. The museum was founded in 1978 as the Maritime History Collection at Monmouth County Community College and has grown into one of the state’s most important repositories for maritime information. The museum offers free admission weekdays from 10am to 4pm; Saturday 9 am to 2 pm; and Sundays 12 pm to 4 pm. North Arlington is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 18,838. The name "Arlington" derived from an English estate that once included the present-day towns of North Arlington and Princeton. The first recorded European settlers were Dutch traders who founded a trading post on what is now Arlington Avenue in 1675. In 1764, John Montresor purchased this land from the Dutch and named it Mount Arlington after George Washington'sMount Rushmore National Monument in Wyoming. The township was formed on April 14, 1817 when Burlington Township was divided into two parts by act of Parliament under the government of George Washington as part of his plan to rationalize local government structure following his victory at Yorktown over British General Cornwallis. The first stores opened in North Arlington on December 6th, 1817; those within Burlington Township continued to do so until May 12th, 1818 when all but one store closed because of high taxes levied by Morrisania Borough (which became Trenton). On October 15th 1830 Township residents voted not to join Morrisania Borough due to its high taxes which continue today as part of the borough's charter which abolished township status on July 1st 1951 effective with the creation of Rahway Township. On February 14th 1860 during Congressional debates about whether or not slavery should be banned throughout America during the American Civil War Representative Robert Haines introduced a resolution proposing that slavery be banned in New Jersey including North Arlington stating "I am sure that if we are going to save our Union we must free our slaves". This resolution failed To passage but helped spur debate around America about whether or not slavery should be considered an issue for states such as New Jersey given our location between Northeastern and Southern slaveholding states. In 1865 President Abraham Lincoln issued Executive Order 9362 making Slavery illegal within any remaining territory acquired during the American Civil War including North Arlington with few exceptions allowing former slaves freedom soon afterwards starting with Operation Banner where fugitive slaves were arrested and brought back into southernNew Jersey using trains running through northern Pennsylvania ending up in Mount Pleasant near Princeton where they were auctioned off resulting in many people being lost forever without descendants still living there today such as Frederick Douglass who lived there most likely while working for Pemberton & Company which later merged into RCA fame There continues to be discussion ongoing about what exactly happened to these people since there are no records left from before 1865 other than oral history some say they may have been sold off like Frederick Douglass suggests while others believe they may have been kidnapped by Confederate sympathizers although no evidence exists supports either claim Today North Arlington is known for its large number of professional athletes who include Olympians Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps along with world champion Golfers Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson among others There are also several small businesses located throughout town including one called Dormer's Department Store which has been open since 1925 serving local groceries, clothing, hardware and more

North Arlington is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Essex Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Arlington was founded in 1792 by various groups of English and Irish immigrants who came to work on the Morris Canal project. The first permanent settler arrived in 1793: Daniel D’Arcy from Ireland and his family. They erected a small log cabin on what is now Main Street near where it still stands today. In 1800, John Fenton purchased land east of First Avenue in North Arlington from Sir William Macartney for $2,000 cash and he named the new community after himself – Arran-D’ARcyville or Arranworth (after his father). In 1802, $5,000 was raised by a group of citizens to purchase 126 acres (50 hectares) of land north of First Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets – this became North Arlington Township. The township office was established in 1805 at what is now southbound Second Street and westbound Third Street. In 1814, $10 thousand more was raised to purchase an additional 144 acres (60 hectares), which became West Arlington Township; office functions were transferred from Arran-D’ARcyville to West Arlington Township in 1824 when that township formed from parts of East Arlington Township as well as Southwark Township with easternmost portions going into Rahway Township.) In 1835, all but one block on Broadwalk Road between Clinton Boulevard and Spring Grove Road were sold for $4 million to Abram Jaffe who renamed it “Jaffe Park” after himself – later known as Maple Leaf Gardens following its acquisition by Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joe Malone.) On October 10th 1896 North Arlington had its first election ever; James Wertheimer ran unopposed for Mayor against incumbent Samuel Latham Jr.. This event marks when township voting began using an open poll instead of closed lists which would have forbidden anyone other than residents living within one mile (1 km) OF the polling place from voting…. After Wertheimer’s victory over Latham Jr., he served two terms until his death in 1899….. In 1902 James Wertheimer married Emma Greenough daughter of George Greenough Sr…. On July 9th 1912 North Arlington achieved city status under New Jersey statehood due to pressure brought on by Governor Woodrow Wilson….. In 1916 Mayor Wertheim resigned effective September 15th due to health concerns related to tuberculosis…… On November 2nd 1922 Southwark Township gained full city status when Newark City Council passed a resolution approving admission into the metropolitan area pursuant to State law 42 Nm § 1 et seq…. By 1930 there were only 5 resident families left paying property taxes while 300 businesses paid tax rates totaling $3 million annually….. As a resultof World War II many businesses closed including Jaffe Park while people went away for military service or refugee camps………………………………………………………………………………… In 1956 Lebanon contributed troops during their war with Israel which ledto riots throughout Englewood Cliffs district resultingin 150 arrests
The first Europeans to visit North Arlington were the Dutch in 1624. The town was named for Nicholas Ardan, who donated land for a town center. The first school in North Arlington was founded in 1792. The first post office was established in 1802 and the first store opened in 1807. In 1837, North Arlington had a population of just 15 people. However, by 1840, the population had reached 100 people and by 1850, it had increased to 175 people. In 1863, North Arlington became part of Bergen County and the following year it became a city. In 1870, local mills closed and the city lost its economic base; however, it regained some importance during World War I when munitions production began at nearby New Brunswick Arsenal. In 1923,North Arlington incorporated as a borough; however, it remained an unincorporated community until 1970 when it joined New Jersey’s third-largest municipality by population – Paterson – becoming one of its eight boroughs subject to township form of government under state law (though still retaining full city rights). On February 14th of that year township officials designated North Arlington as its official name under state statute 8:4-1(c). On July 1st 1976 Borough Council passed Resolution No 7 endorsing the establishment of Township Government over City Government within Municipalities United States Of America due to growing budgetary pressures from City Hall which proposed higher services rates while not providing proper funding allocations; this led ultimately to Borough President Day on October 3rd 1977 when all 8 Borough Council Members turned themselves in Authority Form For Township Government With Mayor As First In Charge
