The North Arlington Coast Guard Station was established in 1924. It is one of the oldest coast guard stations in New Jersey and it has been a part of the NJ State Police since 1911. The station is currently located on Myrtle Beach Boulevard in North Arlington and it is home to the state’s only helicopter squadron and an amphibious unit. In addition, the station provides law enforcement services within the township as well as providing support for local fire departments. In 1924, the North Arlington Coast Guard Station was established at a time when there were only two coast guard stations in New Jersey. At that time, it was located on Hicksville beach and provided law enforcement services within Township of North Arlington. The first helicopters arrived at the station in 1951 and were used for investigative purposes. Additionally, between 1951-1978, the facility also housed three boats which were used for rescue operations during hurricanes such as Hurricane Christie or Hurricane Donna. Since 1978, the Coast Guard Station has been home to Helicopter Squadron One (HS1) which provides service to local fire departments within Township of North Arlington as well as providing support for their emergency response efforts during events such as severe weather conditions or downed trees/ wires. Additionally, between 1978-2018, Helicopter Squadron Two (HS2) was also stationed at the station with its purpose being to provide air ambulance service during incidents like mass casualty situations or hostage crises across Township of North Arlington During 2018-2020, HS2 will be decommissioned and replaced by Helicopter Squadron Three (HS3) which will provide replacement services for both HS1 and HS2 while also serving as a training ground for future Coast Guardsmen

The Coast Guard has been providing law and order on the US coastline since 1917. When ocean shipping became a more common means of transportation, the Coast Guard was born to help protect our coasts from maritime crimes. Today, the Coast Guard provides an important service to our citizens by monitoring and enforcing 800 miles of coastline, and protecting more than 1,000 infrastructure investments across the country. One of the most memorable gifts given to the Coast Guard is the Boatswain’s Mate Badge. This badge was first awarded in 1918 as a way for sailors to show distinction among their peers. The badge is made out of gold-plated brass and features a silver eagle with its wings spread wide, representing vigilance and prowess while in service aboard a ship or vessel. It is also inscribed with the words “Boatswain’s Mate” above each wingtip. A similar gift was given in 1942 when Admiral Chester Nimitz presented Commandant Ralph J. Barton with a set of gold chains as part of his appreciation for Barton's workmanship on behalf of Naval Air Forces during World War II. These chains are still worn today by some members of the Coast Guard who receive them as recognition for their achievements throughout their careers!

The town of North Arlington, New Jersey was first settled in the early 1700s by English and Dutch families. The land that now makes up the town was purchased from the Native Americans by British colonists in 1764. The area that would become North Arlington was part of Hunterdon County until 1814 when it became part of Middlesex County. In 1824, North Arlington became a separate municipality, and in 1868 it merged with neighboring towns to form what is now known as South Arlington. It was made a borough on December 15, 1933. In 1965, it joined the Township of Princeton and then finally the Borough of East Brunswick on February 1, 2018. As one of America's oldest municipalities founded before Confederation (1776), North Arlington provides valuable insight into American history and culture. The town played an important role in both during its early years and throughout its evolution as a community over time. During the Revolutionary War, North Arlington sided with Great Britain against the fledgling United States government. Patriotism was high at this time among many New Jerseys due to their close proximity to London and support for King George III’s cause. After liberation from British rule in 1783, many residents chose to keep their loyalty to America rather than return home under new rules set by Continental Congress member John Adams. North Arlington also played an important role during World War II as a major center for military production within New Jersey. With industries such as aircraft manufacturing plants located here, tens of thousands of workers were employed directly or indirectly during wartime efforts across multiple sectors including shipbuilding and armored warfare production; munitions manufacturing; aviation engineering; shipping; information technology; agriculture; health care services; barracks housing troops while they were stationed overseas on various fronts aroundthe world including Europe and Asia-Pacific theater- totaling more than 5 million jobs creating economic wealth for local businesses alone! Afterward, much like other post-war communities throughout America which experienced rapid population growth following World War II – North Arlington experienced some challenges but ultimately flourished through strong civic engagement and development opportunities resulting in numerous new businesses being established along with significant increases in taxable property values which continue today!
In 1814, North Arlington was founded as a town in Middlesex County by the merger of two other towns, South Arlington and New Market. In 1824, it became an incorporated municipality. On May 15, 1896, North Arlington passed a resolution to become a city after being petitioned by its citizens. The city was created on December 4, 1896 and became one of the five original municipalities in Mercer County.
