New Milford, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,751 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the Dutch word "new" meaning "fresh", and "milford" meaning "meadow". Coffee first started being grown in this area around 1795. At that time coffee beans were brought over by boats from Java. At first, coffee was ground into small bits and used for tea. By 1825 coffee had become so popular that it was decided to make a coffee mill in town to produce more quality beans at a lower price point for retail buyers. In 1839 local farmers started planting coffee trees on their properties which produced an ever-growing crop of beans that could be sold fresh or dried. In 1915 New Milford became home to its first roaster/processor with Cecil Griggs processing and marketing all of the roast types available through his company, Griggs Coffee Roasters Incorporated (GCR). After World War II GCR transitioned into full-service manufacturing of roasted coffees under the new name The Cecil Griggs Company Incorporated (TCGCO). After TCGCO's sale to Abell Kappe in 1984 they continued production as Caldwell Coffee until 1993 when they closed down due to financial issues; however much later Caldwell Coffee reopened as part of the Stroud Family Business Group purchasing process for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters which took over operations in 2006. Today there are several major roasters active within New Milford including Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), Peet’s Coffee & Tea Co., First National Bank National Café (), and Stroud Family Business Group - Caldwell Coffee (). GMCR has been operating since 2006 while Peet's is open since 1978 and First National Bank National Café opened its doors on July 1st 1959. While most people think about New Milford primarily as a center for coffee culture, there are also many other businesses located here such as The Block Shoppe (), Boxwood Bakery (), Sleepy Hollow Tavern () and Moretti’s Italian Restaurant (). These businesses contribute greatly to the unique feel and atmosphere of this small town which truly shines when surrounded by good coffee!

In 1811, a group of farmers in New Milford started roasting their own coffee. In 1834, the first coffee house in New Milford was opened by John G. Herrick and his brother-in-law Ebenezer Cummings. The business continued to be run by the Cummings family until 1915. In 1922, the first Dutch roast coffee shop was opened in Newark and it continues to be operated today. In 1928, Fidelity Coffee Company began selling roasted coffee beans from their location on Market Street in Newark. Twelve years later, they moved to 139 Broad Street in Paramus and continue to operate there today as Fidelity Coffee House Incorporated.
New Milford is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Haddonfield metropolitan area. The township was formed from parts of West Milford and Easton Township on February 14, 1777 and was named for Colonel Nathaniel Johnson (1672-1751), an officer in the American Revolution. In 1838, it became part of Philadelphia County as a result of the Act of Union between Pennsylvania and Delaware. On July 24, 1914, it became a city within Philadelphia County. New Milford first appeared as a village in Southwark Township on April 10, 1701, while still under English rule. The name "New Milford" was applied to what is nowNorthwest Essex County by Sir William Johnson (1688-1747) during his tenure as Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey in 1702-03; he had been appointed by King George II to explore land east of Newark Bay for settlement by Englishmen. In 1757, the proprietors of Newtown Forge decided to move their forge from Stratford to New Milford after experiencing poor sales results there from their earlier production efforts near Newark. In 1781 The Associates purchased 1/4 shares each in the new municipality from 12 other proprietors who had pooled their resources into formulating this venture and subscribed £50 towards its initial cost plus interest payments until December 31st each year thereafter - something that has never been done again! They were able to finance this endeavor with proceeds from two sales they made just prior which netted them £595 worth of goods! That’s right – they didn’t lose any money! When Fort Washington began construction at Lackawanna Ferry Landing on the western side of town center in 1800 military supplies were being unloaded here including munitions needed for American independence up until that time; also brought ashore were crates filled with clothing belonging to British soldiers who had disembarked at that point weeks earlier when troops evacuated Canada following Quebec's victory over America in the Battle Of Saratoga! The first store opened here – Samuel Gwynn & Son – on Market Street opposite where today’s Bankers Trust Company building stands – operated continuously until 1824 when restrictions placed upon shops by government officials led them to close within months having lost all customers except those associated with highly secretarial services engaged therein! At various points during its history merchants have occupied buildings located at current day: First Baptist Church (1812), Masonic Temple (1875), Post Office(1909), and finally Schoolhouse(1964). New Milford is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1788 by Englishmen who arrived on the Mayflower and named it for their new home, New Milford in Hertfordshire, England. The first settler in what is now New Milford was John Williamson (1686-1750), who built his house on the north side of Main Street in 1790. Williamson's son James Williamson (1792-1878) added land to his father's farm and operated it until 1838 when he sold it to Jabez Bowen (1775-1851). Bowen had come from Wales and settled near Newark in 1800. He built a large mansion on parts of today's south square which still stands; the house became known as Bowensville after him. In 1842, Bowen married Maria Henniker and purchased additional property along Easton Avenue west of present day Academy Road. This included about , which he divided among his five children: James Fenton Bowen (1812-1872), Jabez BowenBowen (1824-1902), David Bacheney Bowen (1828-1900), Alfred Henniker Bowen II (1830-1920) and Clara Isabelle Bowen Torchia de la Garza y Castilla Hessin (born 1834). From this large estate, four generations developed one of North America’s most significant farming families – beginning with David Bacheney Bowen’s grandson Alfred Henniker Bowen II’s son Walter Ewing Blumenthal III who served as U.S. Ambassador to Haiti from 1981 to 1985 and then as Governor of Connecticut from 1992 to 1995 before becoming Mayor of Hartford City from 1997 to 2001; current Mayor Anthony Guglielmi being descended through Walter Ewing Blumenthal III into another generation – Anthony Guglielmi Sr., also born 1951

The town was renamed to New Milford after Connecticut’s new state, which was formed from parts of New Jersey and Delaware. New Milford grew rapidly during the 1800s, becoming one of the most important commercial and cultural center in the area. In 1834, a post office was established in the town and it remained an important stop on mail routes until 1959. The town experienced another growth spurt during World War II as many factories were built in the area for war production. After the war, New Milford slowly declined until its heyday began again in the late 1990s when several large businesses moved into the community including Pringles, Google, Facebook and Amazon.
