New Milford, New Jersey is a town of about 71,000 people located in Morris County. It was founded in 1788 and became an incorporated municipality on March 12, 1853. The town had a population of just over 38,000 as of the 2010 census. The first military forces that arrived in New Milford were American militia units which were called to quell local protests against British rule. In 1792, the Dutch Settlers arrived and soon after organized their own militia unit known as the "Volksvolk." These militias fought with distinction against English troops during the French and Indian War (1755-1763). In 1803, when America acquired her independence from Great Britain, New Milford's municipal officials decided to become part of the new country. This event is generally recognized as the beginning of the town's military history. Allied Forces landed at Morristown on July 29th, 1944 in order to support Operation Overlord during World War II. On October 11th 1945 General Dwight D Eisenhower declared war on Japan following their attack on Pearl Harbor. The United States Marine Corps was activated within New Milford and participated in many battles throughout World War II including Okinawa where they played an important role in liberation from Japanese occupation. After World War II ended there wasMunicipal Renewal Act passed by NJ Legislature which requires towns/cities to update their infrastructure such as fire protection systems etc., however due to lack of funds most communities have not taken up this opportunity yet!

New Milford is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Troy Hills, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become New Milford was first settled by Dutch settlers in 1638 as part of what is now Union Township. In 1714, the site of present-day New Milford was acquired by John Woolwich and his wife Anne Livingston from Sir George Carteret for £500 dollars. They named their new town after themselves, New Amsterdam (now Manhattan). The first permanent settler in what would become New Milford arrived in 1768 when Captain Benjamin Hackett built a house on the east side of Route 9 near today's Holmes Avenue and Academy Street. In 1837, portions of Middlesex and Essex counties were combined to form the new state of New Jersey with a land grant to General James Monmouth. On July 1, 1837, Section 5 of township map No. 8 had been divided into two parts within section 12 (the eastern border) due to growing population centers outside of its borders; one comprised sections 11 and 13 which became Easton Township and the other section 14 which became Weston Township; these two townships were combined into one until disbanding again on February 3rd 1886 due to population growth within section 14 alone which outgrew its boundaries by over 100%. After three years as an unorganized township with no elected officials it became organized as a borough on November 29th 1887 by order of Governor John Wadleigh based upon petition from residents who desired incorporation despite lackadaisical government during their previous period under township jurisdiction only 15% effective according to tax rolls published between 1890-1892 Annexed herewith are Tax Roll Nos.. 7-8/9 & 10/11/12 for both Prior Boroughs.. This event led directly to later development in downtown including several large department stores such as Macy's Department Store (later Federated Department Stores), RCA Television Company Building (later Time Warner Center), Haddon Heights Mall along with numerous small businesses across many different industries dating back more than 125 years including: Beecham's Pharmacy opened in 1888 still operating today with 2 locations located on Main Street South just south of Route 9; Brownie Bites started serving food right out front on Market Square soon followed by Sloppy Joe's restaurant also located there beginning around 1915 before eventually moving uptown next door finally closing in 2007 due to laissez faire zoning regulations.; insurance company AIG Ltd., formerly Qwest Bank began operations at One Broadway North opposite Amtrak station starting services in 1984 continuing through 2013 when they relocated downtown next door becoming One City Plaza also known locally as "Qwest Park" until NJ Transit moved all their operations inside the old Amtrak station building beginning September 1st 2016 .
