Metuchen, New Jersey is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,716 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden- hamstring area. Metuchen is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the United States and has a wide variety of cultures represented. The borough's rich history can be found in its buildings and infrastructure, which date back to 1695 when it was incorporated as a town by order of Lord Newark. In 1812, Metuchen became an independent township after being removed from Newark Township. In 1834, Metuchen became part of Camden County when it was formed from portions of Middlesex and Union counties. The first public school in Metuchen opened in 1838 on School Road (now College Avenue). A new high school was built on Great Meadows Boulevard between Meeting Street and Elmhurst Avenue in 1865; this school served as both metropolis' primary educational center until 1970 when it moved to Broadwalk Elementary School on Market Street across from Rutgers University before finally closing its doors for good that year. On July 1, 1957, Metuchen achieved city status through an act of the New Jersey Legislature and adopted a charter with full government powers including taxation and social services like wateritation and sanitation but without representation within the Township Council or Mayoralty like those enjoyed by other municipalities within Camden County. In 1974-75 two new ZIP Codes were added to reflect suburban growth: 07014 for North Central Philadelphia (then called Southwark) annexed into Camden County following Census taker plans that lumped all suburbs north of 30th Street into one large area; 07015 for Vineland (the Borough seat then located within Camden County) annexed into Camden County following Census taker plans that lumped all suburbs south of 20th Street into one large area; these newly created areas now make up much of eastern Camden County while still retaining their respective boroughs' attributes such as police jurisdiction over certain streets/villages/neighborhoods etcetera

Metuchen, New Jersey is located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The population was 20,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Theonne-Middletown metropolitan area. Metuchen was founded in 1785 by General John Forbes and his force of militiamen under the command of Colonel Nicholas Cooke. In 1834, Metuchen became a town and was incorporated as a village on January 1st of that year. On February 28th, 1868, Metuchen became a city when it merged with Theonne and Newark. The first post office in Metuchen opened on December 12th, 1826. In 1830, the first store in Metuchen was established by George Wilkinson from land he received from Sir Robert Stephenson for building the Delaware Railroad across New Jersey. The town grew rapidly; by 1840 there were ten stores and twenty-four households in the community which had a total population of over 100 people! In 1861, Methuen began to build a line up through what is now Metuchen Township (including what is now Easton) to connect their growing community with Philadelphia via steamboats on the Delaware River system

It grew rapidly, becoming a thriving commercial center with mills, warehouses, and stores. In 1876, the town achieved municipal status and began to develop into a more significant cultural center. By 1923, Metuchen had reached its peak as an industrial and financial center. However, during World War II the town became a vital port for the Allies' war effort. After the war ended, Metuchen reverted back to its pre-war status as a small farming community.
