Metuchen, New Jersey is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough's population was 11,724. The name "Metuchen" is derived from the Lenape word "mītuka", meaning "prairie". The first European to visit Metuchen and its vicinity were Frenchmen who landed at Morristown on May 9, 1683 in what is now Princeton Township. They named their new settlement after Jean-Baptiste de Metuche (1586-1661), an officer with the French forces in North America during the early part of the American Revolutionary War. The community was founded as a small village on April 10, 1802 by farmers from Bucks County and Morris County settlers under the leadership of Methodist minister Amos Stroud. The first school was built in 1804 on land donated by Reverend John Fenton. A gristmill was built in 1806 and became known as Metuchen Mill or Fenton's Mills. It still stands today and continues to be used for flour milling; however, it has also been converted into a home museum. In 1814–15 two miles (3 km) of road leading from Paramus to Hackensack opened up whenNJ Railroad construction began between Camden and Newark overland; this route led eventually to Metuchen throughParamus Station. In 1865 – 66 local residents banded together to form Bergen Township due to lack of political will among their fellow township residents; they reverted back to Metuchen Borough status upon establishment of Bergen Township proper four years later According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau report,[1] Metuchen had a population of 11,724 within 3 square miles (8 km2) of its core including all but 265 residences located within Paramus Township which forms part of Bergen Township’s eastern border along NJ Route 22.[2] Within 5 square miles (11 km2) were located 2 schools (both within Paramus), 1 church (Church Hill Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal Zion Church), 2 businesses/cafés/bars/lounges/, 1 public parkette*, 1 cemetery*, 820 single family housing units* [* includes all inhabited dwellings not connected with any other buildings]: 465 apartments[], 182 owner-occupied homes[], and 187 condos [*includes condos managed by real estate firms only]. Of these dwellings: iceshares (* = 100% occupied *) accounted for 71%, transportation services (+$10 million year/$9 billion dollars*) 31%, professional & scientific services (+$1 million year/$5 billion dollars*) 14%, retail trade (+$500 thousand year/$10 million dollars*) 7%, manufacturing (-$100 thousand year/$1 billion dollars*) 4%. *Parksette does not include Allendale Park which is adjacent to Paramus Center Village*

From the time marines manned America’s first overseas combat outpost inlog at Guantanamo Bay in 2002 to the present day, they have deployed across the globe and participated in some of the most dangerous and challenging missions on Earth. The Marine Corps was founded on December 7th, 1846 by George Washington as an infantry regiment. The first Marine units were raised in Rhode Island and Virginia during World War I. The Marines served as combatants on various battlefields throughout history, most notably during both World Wars I and II. In 1945, when Japan surrendered, Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz ordered all U.S. Naval vessels to surrender their forces to Imperial Japan without firing a shot. The Marines Detachment aboard USS Missouri (CA-38) fought off numerous Japanese challenges before surrendering with its weapons still strapped to its servicemen’s chests. During peacetime, marine detachments consist of enlisted men and women who are mobilized for military service when called into action or when necessary for an extended period of time such as Operation Neptune’s Spear which lasted from 1969-1972; Operation Desert Storm which took place from 1990-1991; Operation Just Cause which occurred from 1995-1996;Operation Enduring Freedom which began on September 11th 2001 and ended two years later;and Counterinsurgency War in Afghanistan where marines have played a leading role since 2001
