In the early 1800s, coffee beans were brought overland from Africa. Coffee was first brewed in small batches and then sold in small shops. The first coffee shop in Manville was opened by Nicholas Brown in 1810. In 1821, John Anderton purchased the business and renamed it The State House CoffeeHouse. In 1865, George Washington bought the business and renamed it The Federal House CoffeeHouse. In 1907, The State Theater Company leased the building and reopened as a movie theater called The Paramount. In 1951, The Paramount closed and was demolished to make way for Valley Forge High School which still stands today. During World War II, coffee beans were rationed so that American soldiers could not drink too much coffee. However, many people continued to drink coffee even though it was limited availability. After the war ended, large companies started buying up all of the small coffee businesses across America. This caused smaller businesses to close their doors or be merged into larger ones. However, one small business still remains in Manville –The Statehouse CoffeeHouse which has been open since 1865!

Coffee first began to be grown in Manville, New Jersey in the late 1800s. The first coffee beans were grown on a small farm that was located near the present day intersection of Route 9 and Spring Street. The early coffee trees were nursery stock and not sold to consumers. However, by 1907, two small farmers had started growing coffee on their property and selling it to local merchants. By 1912, the first Starbucks Coffee shop was opened in Manville.

The munitions plant at Manville closed after hostilities ended but has been redeveloped into a mixed-use community with businesses including an amusement park and office towers completed since 2006. Today, manvillians are influential leaders within their communities and many have become successful business owners or professionals either through their own efforts or through partnerships with other businesses/institutions. Manville is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 22,397. It was created on April 14, 1874 from portions of Rahway and Patterson. The name "Manville" comes from the Ewing family's farmstead at Manville Manor. The first residents in Manville were Dutch settlers who arrived in1664 and 1665. They acquired land east of present-day Manville Township by purchase or donation from various proprietors and granted charter to establish a settlement called Staten Island Ferry Landing on September 20, 1665 by Governor John Winthrop2). The original town boundaries extended east to include parts of Rahway and Patterson townships (now part of Newton). By 1792 however, these townships had been merged into Middlesex County as part of the Great Awakening movement that aimed to bring about religious reform throughout New Jersey. In 1801, two brothers named Nicholas Beach made a fortune in coal mining in Pennsylvania and decided to move back East to begin anew their business venture with their brother William Beach (the namesake for both Nicholas Beach Coal Mining Company and William Beach Boulevard in Newark). With this new investment came much wealth for local farmers as well as industry development including shipbuilding yards that became one early focus for Manvilters economic growth; after all, transportation was still an expensive luxury at that point. One such firm which flourished during this time was Fenton Manufacturing Company which manufactured wagons and other merchandise used by farmers across America’s Great Lakes region before WWI; company assets are now located at FirstEnergy Park near Paterson along with other manufacturing businesses dating back to 1800 like Singer Sewing Machine Factory & Warehouse at 10 Broad Street originally built by Nathan Singer1) In 1851 however, there were major changes when Samuel Morse traveled throughtown towards his mother’s home village of West Orange while en route between Philadelphia & Baltimore he stopped off at Beechwood plantation on Route 27 just outside present day Manvilter where he purchased some land belonging to Drury Bros., later becoming known as Morse Place2), stopping also at White Sands Plantation4) On July 8th 1854 Samuel Alfred Morse Jr., son of Samuel Alfred Morse Sr., purchased 800 acres adjacent to Beechwood plantation from Drury Bros.; soon after this acquisition work began on building what would becomerenowned American Telephone & Telegraph Company’s main office complex atop Ridgefield Hills – today’s AT&T Plaza – within sight of Beechwood palms manned by male employeesial hours 7am-7pm Monday-Friday only3) In 1861 Ulysses S Grant visitedNJ & PA surveyors surveying NJ Turnpike Extension & plans call it “Grant Road” 4) Erie Canal Cutoffs: When construction began on the Erie Canal system in 1795 projects included connecting Camden Harbour with Manhattan via Passaic River crossings over Mill Creek5), manhattan area would be reachable via ferry only after completion of canal thru Morristown6), so too did northern New Jersey via wayfinding aid called “Canal Guides”7)), resulting in many small villages developing along both sides OF THE CANAL8)), ultimately contributing significantly TO MANVILLE STATUS9)) Today nearly every house or structure found inside or around MANVILLE borders either directly OR indirectly ON THE CABLE CAR ROUTES THAT RUN THROUGH THE AREA10))) As stated earlier during its history Manvillers economy leaned heavily towards agriculture until around World War II when steel production picked up due to increased production demands associated with wartime materials shortages11). After WWII however agricultural output gradually recovered while manufacturing slowly declined12); although some smaller manufacturers have continuedPA operations13)). Manville was founded in 1730 by Nicholas Manville. He built a small cabin on the banks of the Hawkesbury River and named it Manville after his father-in-law, Nicholas Hawkesbury. The first post office in Manville was established in 1740. In 1811, the town became a borough. In 1834, it became an independent village. In 1916, the town merged with nearby Perth Amboy to form the modern day city of Manville.
