The National Guard of Madison, New Jersey was activated on November 8, 1941. The New Jersey National Guard is the oldest and most veteran unit in the state of New Jersey. The unit has served in numerous capacities since its activation including during World War II as part of the United States Armed Forces, the Vietnam War and currently serves as an armada to support Memorial Day events in the town of Neptune. The history of the National Guard can be traced back to 1815 when Ft. Monmouth was founded by General John Woolford as a military post on Long Beach Island near what is now Neptune. In 1898, Fort Monmouth was disbanded and its land sold off for development purposes including construction of a national guard barracks on what is now State Street in Newark which became known as Fort Monroe. In 1928, NJGC was created from portions of three other militia units previously constituted within NJDG (the Essex County Militia; Bergen County Militia; Morris County Militia). On October 1st 1931, NJGC received orders from Governor Coolidge to mobilize for war with Spain following President Franklin D Roosevelt's Executive Order 9104 providing for National Defense through all possible channels including the enlistment and training of citizens without duty or any protection under state law. NJGC mobilized on November 8th 1941 under Colonel James Gorman who served as Commanding Officer until his death at age 70 years old on February 17th 1942 while leading elements probing Spanish positions at El Caney Hills near Atascadero, California pursuant to Executive Order 10671 which called for American troops concentration along coastal areas between Baja California and San Diego Texas pending further instructions from Washington requiring such action.

Madison is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 14,844. It is the second-most populous borough in Middlesex County after Newark. Madison was first settled by English colonists in 1683 and became a part of what is now Union County. It formed part of Amherst Township until 1834 when it became its own township. In 1868, it gained city status and annexed parts of Elizabethtown (then called Newton). The name Madison derives from James Madison, fourth President of the United States and Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President. The first settlers arrived at about the same time as George Washington did on his historic trip to America in 1776: early French traders had landed here too before that point with some initial development taking place along Route 22 near present-day Princeton Junction before large tracts were sold off to Englishmen for farming purposes beginning in 1683 or earlier as part of an effort to gain political control over the newly founded colonies following King Philip's War (1689-1697). There are various stories about where this area lay before European settlement but one story has it that Indians knew about this land because they found hidden gold veins nearpresent-day Princeton Junction which began producing coins minted here around 500 BC; others say that a Native American chief named Mahican discovered rich coal seams here while exploring through present-day Mercer County in 1701–2 but no mention has been made of him specifically anywhere else within North America up until then! Growth started slowly due to lack of available water resources which also limited farmland capability; however by 1800 there were 20 families living on just 1/4 acre (0.2 hectare) each! By 1830 only 2 families lived there full time while 90% came from outlying areas including Princeton Township where most people worked raising livestock or tanning hides for clothing industry! However Madison quickly developed into one OF THE LARGER Boroughs IN MERSEY COUNTY due largely to agricultural production followed by heavy industrialization starting with nearby Elizabethtown & Newton which both joined forces during World War II becoming major metropolitan centers due their proximity to military bases and other important commercial developments across NJ local government boundaries changed very little during those years making many residents forget all about their tiny borough origins back home... although much remains unchanged today despite rapid population growth since then!!!

The town quickly rebuilt and continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1800. In 1834, Madison became the capital of New Jersey.
