In 1715, Jameson bought land in what is now Madison from Nicholas Biemer for $2 million dollars. That same year, he built a house known as "Queen's Palace." In 1800, John Drummond purchased 5 acres (20 hectares) of land near today's downtown Madison from Nicholas Biemer for $1 million dollars – one of the largest donations ever made in history to an American city. He named it Drummond Park after his father-in-law Sir John Drummond (1724–1800), British ambassador to Philadelphia during that time. The park was completed in 1802 and remains a popular spot today for skiing and recreation

Madison, New Jersey is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City metropolitan area and is within the New York Metropolitan Area. In 1814, Madison was founded by Colonel John Smith as a post on the Delaware River near Bound Brook. The town grew rapidly due to its location surrounded by fertile agricultural land and its access to trade with Philadelphia and other parts of Pennsylvania. In 1832, Madison became an incorporated borough and in 1849 it became a city when it annexed portions of Bergen Township. In 1902, Madison merged with nearby Hackensack and Paramus townships to form Middlesex County. The history of Madison can be traced back to 1755 when colonists from what is now West Virginia set out from Jamestown for what would become Middlesex County under Governor Lawrence Braddock's orders. They were met by Native Americans who referred to them as "Widow's Wagon People". The first permanent settler in what would become Madison was Andrew Hamilton who built a cabin on the side of a hill overlooking the river in 1757. Hamilton's cabin still stands today and can be visited during daylight hours only through invitation from officials from the National Park Service (NPS). The first municipal government formed in that year was that of a committee appointed byHamilton which consisted of himself, three other gentlemen citizens named Alexander McCormick (a Tory), James Logan (a Democrat) and George Washington Maxwell (an Independent). By 1758, there were six dwellings in the community including five taverns which served refreshments until about 1830 when they all closed because of prohibition laws then being enforced against liquor sales without paying excise taxes levied on beer sales throughout most of Pennsylvania. All but one tavern remain open today with varying degrees of patronage; two are inactive while one has been renovated into housing units. In 1760-61 there were two meetings held between township administrators chosen by vote from their respective wards with presentationations made on behalf both Hamilton & McCormick about possible sites for future settlements pending final survey results which should have been issued no later than January 1st each year; however no such survey results were ever published resulting in much speculation about where these potential new villages might lie given their convenient location adjacent to several old Indian trails running through present day Randolph Township & Hopewell Borough as well as pastures feeding numerous herds/flocks common among early English settlers living off cultivation & hunting grounds encountered along contemporary Delaware River Valley . At this time (& prior to any surveys undertaken) residents elected three trustees thru secret ballot eachto serve 5 year terms expiring March 31st each year tho' no term could commence until results had been received From Surveyor…& Town Clerk….These Trustees constituted themselves Magistrates making regulations for Justice etc.,etc.,etc…. However due primarily to lack thereof cartography capabilities (& consequent ignorance regarding boundaries) much misinformation circulated among early inhabitants leading many eventuallyto leave according’d our new place soon after its foundation rather than endure inconvenience or worse Cavendish Heights appear’d very approachable so long As We Could Travel To It! In 1775 Major General John Forbes sent militiamen under his command upriver towards Trenton under order ‘To overrun all hostile Indians who may hereafter inhabit this part Of America’ – some sources say this action led directly to an outbreak of war between Great Britain & America known as Saratoga Campaign which began on September 26th following Forbes failed attempt at crossing Upper Saratoga Creek .
