Coffee has been enjoyed by people all over the world for centuries. There are many different types of coffee and beans that can be found all around the world, but some of the most popular coffee varieties include Turkish Coffee, Colombian Coffee, Java Coffee, Ethiopian Coffee and Arabica. The first settlers in New Jersey began to grow coffee beans in the early 1800s. One of the earliest cafes on Long Branch Avenue was founded by John Gorman and his brother-in-law Michael Garvey in 1868. In 1898, Dutch Settlers started growing coffee beans on a small farm near Asbury Park. By 1912, 6Dutch families had settled in Long Branch and they soon opened their first shop called Dutch Bros. The colony entered World War I and many of the farmers were forced to leave their farms due to wartime rationing. However, during World War II Dutch Bros resumed sales with new owners who made it one of the largest Starbucks locations in NJ. After the war Dutch Bros closed its doors for good in 1949 but it reopened as a cafe later that year with Donny & Marie O’Neill as owners/managers. In 1978 Donny & Marie O’Neill sold their business to Bob Dole which then became known as Bob Evans Olde Time Cafe until it closed down in 1996 when Dole moved his family out of state. In 1997 Patrons Brewing Company opened up shop at 527 Court Street which became one of NJ’s most popular cafes until it shuttered also in 1998 when Patrons merged with another cafe located less than a mile away (The Brewster Place). Finally, Rucker’s Cafeteria at 2200 Broad Street reopened its doors on September 3rd 1999 after being vacant since 1994 when it was bought by local resident Rick Rucker from competing restaurant chain Red Lobster Incorporated In recent years there have been several attempts by café Owners/Managers to reopen their businesses including: The Brewster Place (1998-2000), Patrons Brewing Company (1997-1998), Bob Evans Olde Time Cafe (1996-1997), Rucker's Cafeteria (1999-2001) and finally Patron's Brewing Company again(2007-) although none have become successful enough to keep them open permanently Some notable customers who have frequented these establishments over time include: Joe Biden Sr., Bill Clinton Sr., Hillary Clinton, Neil Patrick Harris Jr., Alec Baldwin, Drew Barrymore etc As espresso machines continue becoming more popular throughout North America and Europe cafés are starting to offer drip or pour over shots instead of just regular espresso drinks like we do here at home 1) Dutch Bros.: This establishment is responsible for bringing java single origin coffee beans into NJ back before Starbucks did 2) Patron's Brewing Company: Owned by former VP Bob Dole this business served delicious drip or pour over shots until 2001 when they merged with another establishment nearby

Long Branch is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. The largest other settlements in the town are Sayreville and Dumont. The name "Long Branch" probably derived from a Native American word meaning "the place where the river bends." In 1732, when Robert Morris moved his family to America from Holland, he named his new land "NewJersey". In 1764, while living in Burlington Township (now part of Dumont), George Washington was married at Saint Nicholas' Church in Long Branch. He named it Fort Fenton after himself and set up a stockade to protect his land from British forces during the War of 1812. In 1814, John Fenton teamed with Peter Cooper to build the first mill on Monmouth Creek about two miles west of today's village center. Mills continued to be built along Monmouth Creek through the 19th century; some still stand today. By 1870, there were over 20 mills operating in Long Branch – more than any other municipality in New Jersey except Trenton. During World War I and II, Long Branch produced munitions including explosives and aircraft parts making it one of the most industrial areas in south Jersey.
