Maga Coffee is a coffee company that has been in business since the early 1800s. Maga Coffee was started by Italian immigrants in Lodi, New Jersey. The first shop opened up in 1847 and continued to operate until 1957. Maga Coffee is known for their unique blend of Italian-American and Ethiopian-American beans. Today, there are over 150 stores across the United States and Canada that offer maga coffee.

Maga coffee history can be traced back to 1854 when Nicholas Maga, a Dutchman, immigrated to America and began trading beans from his farm in Lodi, New Jersey. In 1865, the first espresso machine was built in America by Italian immigrants Angelo and Emilio Malaspina. In 1922, Luigi Maga became the first commercial producer of maga coffee in America. The company continued production until its closure in 1969.

Lodi is a small town located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Paterson–Vineland–Bergen metropolitan area. Lodi is an agricultural community and has a large dairy industry which produces milk, cheese, and yogurt. The Lodi-Paterson School District serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelveth grade. Lodi was founded on November 15, 1789 by Loyalist refugees from New York City who had fled during the American Revolution. The original settlement consisted of 125 people; however, it grew quickly to more than 1,000 by 1800 due to its location on the border of two Revolutionary War-era battlegrounds: Monmouthshire and West Milford Township (now Rahway). The first post office opened in 1810; it was renamed Lodi in 1846 after Major General Isaac Brock's cavalry unit arrived there from Morristown to help suppress a pro-French uprising there that year. In 1868, Lodi became one of nine towns within Hunterdon County when it was created from parts of three other counties: Morris Township (northwest), Burlington Township (southwest), and Clinton Township (southeast). Agricultural production played a major role in early Lodi life; various types of crops were grown such as corn, beans, potatoes, cottonseed oilseed production using milking cows for their butter or cream products and hogs for their lard or bacon grease. However, with advances in technology and better animal breeds over time such as the development of feedlots that raised beef cattle for human consumption starting around 1910—the majority being processed into hamburgers today—livestock production dwindled significantly while agriculture continued to be an important economic facet of village life until recent times when both have become increasingly marginalized economically and socially. Maga coffee beans were first grown in the Philippines during the early part of the 19th century. The earliest mention of maga coffee comes from a proclamation by US President James K. Polk in 1885, which proclaimed that Filipino farmers could grow and sell their own type of coffee. The Philippine "maga" beans quickly became well-known throughout Asia due to their unique flavor and quality. In 1895, Japan started importing large numbers of Philippine maga beans for its tea industry, eventually developing its own version of this product known as "japanese green". By 1912, Japanese civilians had started exporting miga coffee to many parts of the world including Europe and Australia. In 1915, Dutch traders discovered a new type of bean called "dutch roast" while traveling through Southeast Asia. This variety was particularly prized by Europeans because it was much less bitter than other types of coffee and had a more complex flavor profile. The Dutch began importing large quantities of these beans in 1916 and soon they became popular among European teabaggers worldwide.

Maga coffee started as a small business in the heart of Jakarta, Indonesia in the early 1990s. Maga Coffee is a family-owned and operated business that has been brewing high quality coffee since 1995. The company has been growing rapidly over the years and currently employs around 50 people across three factories in Jakarta and Surabaya. In 2013, maga Coffee was named one of JKR’s Top 100 Businesses for Excellence in Sustainable Development by Forbes magazine.

Lodi, New Jersey is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 17,827 at the 2010 census. Lodi was founded in 1798 by Scots-Irish immigrants, and become an incorporated village in 1848. It became a city on April 14, 1907.

Lodi was incorporated as a town on April 15, 1855, from part of the former township of Bloomingdale. It was named for Lodi, Italy.
