Lodi, New Jersey is a city in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 41,853 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1764 by General John Monmouth and his men as Lodi Station on the Morristown Road. It became a borough in 1876 and an unincorporated community in 1912. It was renamed Dillard Heights in 1934 after James W. Dillard of Philadelphia who donated land for the development. The borough dissolved in 1960 and its assets were combined with those of East Brunswick to form Mercer County. The original Lodi station house still stands as a museum inside the former Borough Hall building (now used as a library). Lodi has had two mayors: John Fenton from 1916 to 1921 and Harold Ivey from 1951 to 1957. Fenton's namesake street, Fenton Boulevard, is named for him. In 2016-2017 Lodi Borough voters passed a resolution endorsing legalization of recreational marijuana within the municipality limits; this vote followed neighboring East Brunswick's referendum approving such legalization also that year
