There is a rich coffee history in Little Ferry, New Jersey. The town was founded by Dutch settlers in the early 17th century and was known as the “Dutch Market” because of its large marketplace. Coffee roasting began in Little Ferry in the 18th century and continued until the late 19th century. The first commercial coffee production took place near present-day Monmouth Junction. A small batch of coffee was roasted on October 12, 1827, when John Morse bought land at what is now called Waterford Avenue and Route 23 in Little Ferry. The first purchase of a lot for coffee production allowed Morse to establish himself as one of the leading businessmen of his time. During the 1830s, Harmony Coffee House operated adjacent to what is now known as Neptune High School; it served as both a grocery store and café from 1829 to 1840. In 1841, Isaac Harmon opened nearby Pollock's Brewery which became one of NJ's most prominent brewers until its closure in 1917. In 1850, Joseph Haines started making coffee at his home on Main Street; he became an important figure within New Jersey's coffee industry during this time period. By 1860, Haines had purchased a larger farmstead west of present-day Elizabethtown Township and began growing coffee trees on his property (today known as Cranberry Bog). In 1861, Hainesann organized a group of farmers who purchased 1,200 acres east of Elizabethtown Township for use as their own coffee plantation; this group later became known as Brown &Hanson Enterprises (B&H). In 1865, Elijah Bender opened Philadelphia's first independent coffeeshop – Bender's Coffee House – located just south of present dayLittle Ferry on Rte 235/8W between Butler Avenue and Maple Road. From 1865 to 1870, Bender operated several other coffeeshops throughout northeastern Pennsylvania before moving his businessroup headquarters to Camden County in 1872 after becoming interested in starting up his own manufacturing company with some initial equipment from Philadelphia breweries – which he named North American Coffee Company (NACo). This company soon distributed its beans all over America via retail outlets including those established by eastern shipping firms such as Iron Island Line Co., Century Line Steamship Co., Donnelley & Sons Wharfage and others during that period..

In 1969, the cafe was bought by the Franks family and changed their name to Franks’. It served as a movie theater from 1975-1986. From 1986-1992, the store was owned by Rheinbach Coffee Company. At that time, it closed its doors for good but reopened as a coffee house in 1993 under the name of The Dutch Bros.' Cafe again until 2001 when it closed its doors permanently due to financial troubles.
Little Ferry is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA-NJ-DE-MD Combined Statistical Area. The first Europeans to come to Little Ferry were Dutch Protestants who landed there on October 15, 1682, in what is now called "the landing." They engaged in farming and trading with the local Susquehanna Indians. The area became known as Ferry Landing because of its easy access to the river and for ferrying goods between Wilmington and Camden. In 1795, George Washington made Little Ferry his headquarters during his military campaign against British troops near Princeton. In 1803, General James K. Polk's army passed through Little Ferry en route from Trenton to Camden; when they reached Camden they took a ferry across the Delaware River at Red Bank for an encampment on White Sands Creek outside of Princeton Junction. On July 24, 1796 (Father's Day), John Jay and James Kincaid founded Clinton Township while surveyors surveyed lands grants in that township along with adjoining Lewis Township taken up by Father Jacques Marquette Some time later Joseph Priestly organized a company of soldiers under Captain John Byers who started moving timber out of this region towards Mercer County but by 1800 only 10 acres had been cut down including what would become Little Ferry creek bed as well as some brushy heights above present day Village Green Road/Route 9 & Old Forge Rd/Ferry Terminal Road). When these early pioneers arrived here it was still part of their home country where Pocono Mountains lay east and beyond their view just south of Fishkill Creek & west of present day Route 8 which ran thru' today's village center - all land now within Hunterdon County limits! Kincaids named the stream after himself father (John) Kincaid who had furnished transportation from Burlington to Perth Amboy on May 12th 1775 during American Revolutionary War fighting there side against King George IIL OF GREAT BRITAIN commands Patriot forces then operating along upper Delaware River Valley under LtCol Nathanael Greene leading them into battle at Ortonville June 14th 1777 US victory over Spanish Armada resulting in Spain ceding North America back to Great Britain effective October 26th 1781 .......... so too did most if not all major streams running thru' this region including those naming after early settlers such as 'Creek,' 'Fishkill,' etc......... till very recent days when various man made dams have been erected upstream & downstream making much needed water supplies unavailable ......fewer people live here today than when first settled...... In 1849, it became a township in Burlington County. On July 1,1856, Little Ferry merged with neighboring Southwick to form the present-day municipality of Southwick and Little Ferry.
The Little Ferry is a historic ferry service in New Jersey. It was founded in 1856 by Captain John A. Dix and his family, and served as the only water connection between Sussex County and Monmouth County. The original ferry operated from the mouth of the Raritan River to an abandoned pier on the north shore of Long Island Sound. In 1892, the first bridge over the Raritan was built, making it possible to connect both Sussex and Monmouth Counties. The service was discontinued in 1954 when Interstate 95 was completed; however, a permanent bridge still stands over the river today.
