He served during World War II as an infantryman with Company A 1st Battalion, 5th Marines at Iwo Jima where he was awarded his second Purple Heart for wounds received while under enemy fire during Operation Tarawa on February 19th 1945. 2) Private First Class Darrell Wampler enlisted in 1967 from North Carolina and served two tours of duty Viet Nam before being discharged dishonorably due to medical problems incurred there including a hernia operation which caused him great pain each day he went about his business as a private! 3) Sergeant Michael McAuliffe joined up with Company G 3rd Battalion (Marine National Guard), 8th Infantry Regimentin 2006 after serving two tours in Iraq as an intelligence translator/ Spotter/ Reconnaissance Operator-Eagle Scout unit leader before deploying with company “A” 4th Battalion (Marine Artillery), 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Lightweight), 11th Armored Division – major combat operations at Abu Ghraib prison complex Iraqi Campaign Phase III December 2007-February 2008″ following successful completion of amphibious assaults against fortified positions east Baghdad on November 25th 2007; Sgt McAuliffe later died as result of injuries sustained while fighting near Fallujah airfield October 24th 2009″ 4) Sergeant James Pieper Jr., age 27 from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania enlisted into the Marine Corps Reserve Component on May 15th 2005 after completing high school graduation requirements at Lackawanna Valley High School In Bethlehem PA; left active duty September 30 2004 after 10 deployments totaling 7 months overseas including 2 deployments to Southwest Asia; prior experience serving part time or full time within squad or platoon level command position within same battalion or regiment where deemed essential for successfull participation rate etc.;Sergeant Pieper also completed Physical Training Course approved by USMC physical therapist program then reported for initial recruit class Oct 12 2006 thru Nov 6 2006 at Jacksonville Armory located at 515 South Union Street Suite 1800 Jacksonville FL 32401 Sergeants James Pieper Jr., right hand man killed Sept 30 2004 Afghanistan tour were among first Americans killed by Taliban
In the early hours of December 12, 2017, Marines in Afghanistan received word that their friend and fellow Marine, Alexei Navalny, had been sentenced to a year in prison for unlawfully protesting against President Putin. The sentencing came as a relief to the Marines and their families who were worried about what Navalny's sentence would mean for his wellbeing. Navalny is an outspoken protester who has engaged in large-scale civil disobedience against Russian authorities since he was detained after leading a peaceful protest outside Russia's parliament in September 2013. He has also made public statements critical of Putin and the Russian government's policies. In July 2017, he was elected leader of Russia's only opposition party. Navalny is not just an individual who suffers from political jail time; he is also a symbol of resistance against authoritarianism and human rights abuses that take place within Russia during Putin's rule. The history of Little Ferry dates back to 1795 when surveyors named it after Captain John Little and his family who had come overland from Pennsylvania that year. The town was founded on the east bank of the Raritan River as a ferry landing on the then-new road connecting Trenton with Elizabethtown. After years of development and growth, Little Ferry became an incorporated township in 1868 based on its location at the confluence of the Raritan and Hackensack Rivers. In 1938, it became a borough status; however, it reverted to township form again in 1960. The borough was dissolved as a result of consolidation with Paterson in 1998. According to the United States Census Bureau, Little Ferry has a total area of , all land. As of 2010, there were 3,711 people living in Little Ferry Township (of which 2% were non-Hispanic white), 5% (non-Hispanic black) or Hispanics/Latinos (23%), 1% Native Americans or Alaska Natives (0.3%), 8% Asian Americans (4%) or other races (8%).

Little Ferry is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The community was founded in 1839 by John and Susannah Little. It became a borough in 1868 and was incorporated as a village in 1923. The community is located on the Delaware River at its intersection with Route 9 (which forms the border of Mercer and Sussex counties). Little Ferry is home to the Little Ferry Adobe Site which contains some of the earliest evidence of human habitation in what is now New Jersey. The first settler to come to Little Ferry was John Little who arrived in 1839. He built a cabin on the banks of the river. The cabin still stands today and can be found through archaeological excavation conducted by Rutgers University's Center for American History. Other early settlers included Isaac Adams and his family who came from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, in 1840; William Sappington who settled near present-day East Brunswick; Samuel Morse who established a ferry service between Newark and Elizabethtown; Ebenezer Browning who built two sawmills on nearby White Sands Creek; also three men, Job Welles, Daniel Dayan and Moses Morrissey from Burlington Township traveled downriver to purchase supplies at Big Sandy Landing before returning upstream to their farmstead on Saturday nights during the summer months for dinner. In 1865, when Bridgeport became an independent city, residents of Bridgeport petitioned Mayor George Wickersham to annex them into their city but Wickersham refused because Bridgeport had no water supply that could support such an annexation. On December 4th 1863, while waiting for word from Mayor Wickersham about whether he would annex them into Bridgeport or not, residents of Little Ferry set fire to their own building which they believed would Importance since Mayor Wickersham's decision not to annex them into BridgePORT created animosity within the community between those living within NJ & PA borders (&BridgePort locals) vs NJ & PA natives/settlers living along riverbanks outside city limits... In 1923, after years of discussion among local leaders over proposed changes made to township government including consolidation with neighboring East Brunswick (then known as West Orange), voters approved incorporation into Mercer County as a village under the name "Little Ferry".
