The Little Ferry Air Force Base is a major air force installation in New Jersey. It was founded on October 16, 1942 as the Little Ferry Army Airfield and served as an auxiliary airfield for the Continental Air Forces during World War II. The base was activated on December 1, 1942 and became operational as a strategic bomber center under the command of Eighth Air Force. In 1945, it also served as a trainingbase for new fighter pilots. Since its activation, Little Ferry AFB has been home to various USAF units and installations, including the 629th Bomb Wing (Hornet), 953d Operations Group (Jet Provost) and 527th Airlift Squadron (Air Camels). The base has also hosted various NATO forces members such as the Polish 8th Armored Brigade Combat Team and Danish 3rd Infantry Division. Today, Little Ferry AFB houses the 1st Fighter Wing which is responsible for providing aerial refueling support to combat operations worldwide. The 1st Fighter Wing has also been designated as one of three wings within CENTCOM responsible for executing Operation Neptune's Spear - an intense multinational effort against Islamist militants in Afghanistan. Little Ferry AFB is known throughout New Jersey for hosting numerous military functions each year such as Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day Weekend parade and flyover ceremonies honoring service members killed in action or missing in action while deployed overseas. This tradition began at Little Ferry Airport when then-Major General James Momyer delivered his address dedicating the airport to military personnel who have lost their lives while serving their country abroad during WWII. Additionally, every Fourth of July - from locally elected officials all the way up to generals - Little Ferry AFB hosts a large fireworks display that includes over 100 aircraft participating from all over New Jersey airspace!

In response to the attack emergency dispatches were sent out from Little Ferry, New Jersey for military personnel and their families to assemble at bases in Florida as soon as possible. Little Ferry is a small village in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,421 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Paterson–Newark, NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Little Ferry was Andrew J. Donoghue who arrived on July 5, 1676 and named it after his mother's brother Christopher Donoghue (1596–1658), one of the founders of Newark. He had been living with his family near Rahway when he decided to move out west in search of a better life. By 1702 most of northeastern Hunterdon County had been claimed by the Dutch and many settlers were driven out or died during the early years of European settlement in this area. In 1703 Jameson moved from English Creek Township to purchase land at what is now corner of Main Street and Ferry Road which he renamed Jameson's Landing because he thought it might be more advantageous to name a landing after someone than just "the creek". Jameson also founded Dunedin (later West Orange) as an agricultural community on some land purchased from John Wise about five miles east of Little Ferry. In 1710 Nicholas de la Motte built a tavern on ferry road between Jameson’s Landing and Dunedin called "The Post" which functioned as both a stop for travelers passing through Little Ferry and as a source of income for de la Motte himself. Over time other taverns were built along the same route including "The Gilded Cage" (1724) and "Royal George" (1741). These establishments became known throughout Hunterdon County for their stylish architecture, fine food, and drink - all typical features associated with high-class society at that time. The ferry became a popular mode of transportation for people in the area, as it allowed them to get between the two small towns quickly and easily. The ferry also served as a convenient way to get around during election season, as both Rahway and Little Ferry were considered close seats on the political spectrum. In 1936, the New Jersey Legislature added a second boat onto the ferry service, which made it even more useful. The addition of this boat made it easier for people to get around during winter months, when transportation was difficult to come by. In 1969, the NJ Transit Corporation purchased the ferry service from its previous owner. This caused some problems for NJ Transit because they wanted to tear down all of the old boats and replace them with new ones, butiharaedly decided against this plan due to budget constraints. However, NJ Transit continued using many of these older boats until 1993 when they replaced them with new vessels. Since then, Little Ferry has seen some much-needed repairs and upgrades - most notably a new bridge that was built in 2006-2007.
