Lincoln Park is a public park located in the borough of Lincoln, New Jersey. The park was first dedicated on October 15, 1868, to Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln. The park was originally named East Side Park after nearby Eastern Parkway. In 1922, the name was changed to its current name in honor of President James K. Polk Jr., who died in office. On May 12, 1942, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum opened at the park in commemoration of the victims of World War II. The museum has been housed at the park since then and contains interactive exhibits about American history and Holocaust remembrance. The land that now forms part of Lincoln Park was once part of a large estate belonging to John Dyer III which included parts of what is now Liberty Township and Westwood Village as well as much of eastern Hudson County. John Dyer III died in 1815 leaving his estate to his son David Waddell Dyer who sold it to Hugh Blairmore for $5,000 dollars on April 21, 1799. Hugh Blairmore donated it to what is now called Trinity University (now Rutgers University) on February 20th, 1800 for an agricultural college that would be known as “Blairmore College” because he owned most of the land upon which it sat including present-day North Brunswick Township and Burlington County. In 1903, school trustees voted not to rename it after James K Polk Jr., but rather change its name back to Blairmore College following a petition by students following their November 9th vote against naming any college after either Franklin D Roosevelt or Woodrow Wilson due in part to their respective roles in World War I and II respectively). On July 1st 1913, during World War I veteran Nathan Bedford Forrest became president of DuPont de Nemours & Company which merged with Standard Oil Company on January 8th 1915 becoming one company under one corporate headalthough both companies continued trading separately until 1923 when they were combined into DuPont Corporation under Forrest’s presidency). After years of struggling with antitrust problems from other oil companies such as Standard Oil Company duPont decided that Lincolns Parks would be ideal location for its new chemical plant because it had ample open space along with good transportation links thereby creating one giant company that could compete successfully against other companies within its industry while still maintaining some degree independence from them Du Pont also acquired control over many small businesses within Lincolns Parks including Mount Hope Nursery which operated outbuildings adjacent to what is currently home field at Rutgers University called “The Oval” where football games are played today; Asphalt Supply Co.; National Rubber Products Inc.; Jardine rubber products ltd.; two ice cream parlors (Wendy’s Dairyland/Applebees); Mrs Pickering’s Bakery; Howells Ice Cream Parlor; two movie theaters (the RKO theater across Broadwalk from Central School Street between 4th avenue South and 5th avenue North - closed up shop sometime before 1980) making Lincolns Parks one Of America's largest commercial districts . In 1924 Du Pont Corporation renamed itself "Dupont" after giving away all their stock in order To build support for their merger withStandard OilCompany so everyone could understand how important this merger would be for both companies Additionally Dupont began producing paint thinner direct from manufacturing plants thus reducing production costs associated with traditional printing processes
