The Kearny Air Force Base gift history began in the early days of the base when a small detachment of soldiers from nearby Fort Monmouth donated their time and resources to help build an airfield. The first public use of the new airfield came on November 10, 1926 when the Kearny AAF was opened for operations. The base played an important role in World War II as a strategic bombing and supply center. In 1945, Kearny AFB became one of two U.S. Air Forces bases worldwide to accept Boeing B-29 Superfortresses as part of the United States atomic bombing campaign against Japan. They built mills on the river which powered early settlements around this area including Scranton which began trading with New York City soon after its founding in 1668. The English started settling here around 1760 as farmers turned to farming following the revolutionary war victory over Spain by George Washington. One of these Englishmen was John Kearny who became one of America's earliest political leaders serving as Mayor of Philadelphia from 1795-1796 during his time as part of Confederationist resistance against British rule before moving to New Jersey for political reasons following the signing of the Treaty of Paris that ended that conflict on September 3rd, 1783 . He also served twice as Governor of New Jersey from 1800-1804 before becoming Ulysses S Grant’s Vice President when he succeeded Franklin D Roosevelt in 1912 John A Kiernan played an important role in developing this region including being owner/operator/builder/contractor for many local roads and bridges through his work located near where he lived today on Ferry Road just east of Route 9 south of Interstate 95 exit 10th Street mainline traffic will encounter him directly on Routes 77 & 9 Southbound follow him all the way to his old farmstead(now a private home) upon reaching it you will find his well known Kiernan’s Corners tavern still standing today! In 1814, Kearny became a township under full statehood following ratification by voters of New Jersey during General James Wilkinson’s administration There are several contributing factors including: 1) increased population growth due to industrialization throughout much of America 2) increasing transportation opportunities due to development along I-95 3) increase availability of land thanks largely to Moravian missionaries 4) improvements made byJohn A Kiernan himself 5) overall improvementism initiated by Governor Samuel Tilden 6) hard workingness & resilience brought about by various natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy
