One of these businesses, a tannery, produced a particularly fine type of coffee known as Bolder Roasts. Bolder Roasts were light and smooth with a strong flavor that appealed to soldiers and sailors on board ship. They began to be sold at local stores across the United States, and eventually became popular with everyone from business owners to consumers. Thanks to their popularity, Bolder Roasts helped make Keansburg one of the most important coffee towns in America.

Keansburg is a town in the U.S. state of New Jersey, located on the Keansburg River. The population was 8,821 at the 2010 census. Keansburg was formed as a result of an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 16, 1834, which granted land to James and Esther Kean in lieu of damages they had suffered from a mill fire that destroyed their dwelling in 1827. The town name comes from John Kean's father-in-law, who also named it for his daughter Esther (née Middlebrook). The first post office was established in 1838, and continued operation until 1865. It was then renamed West Trenton; its current name is based on its location within Trenton Township and within 2 miles of the Princeton University campus. In 1912–13, Keansburg became part of Trenton Township; it remains part of that township today. Keansburg is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Fairfield metropolitan area. The first European tosight Keansburg was from Dutchman Hendrik Stevens on October 4, 1666 when he sailed past Cape May and landed on what is now Keansburg Pier. He named it for his friend and neighbor Nicholas de Kean who lived near him in the village of Machias Township. In 1785, John Kean founded a gristmill on the south side of the river in what is now Keansburg Township; this mill made flour for local markets and also exported flour to Philadelphia and other areas. In 1814, George Washington visitedKeansburg while campaigning for president; he stopped at the mill on his way back from Kingston where he had been burned by British forces during the War of 1812.In 1857, Jacob Weisberger built a sawmill on Little Egg Harbor Creek in what is now section 8 of Easton Township; this mill produced lumber for local homes and also exported lumber to Philadelphia and other areas.In 1865–1867, John Husted established a cotton gin at which point keensberg began to become known as "the cotton capital of America." By 1870–71 there were twenty-three keensberg mills operating with an output of one million pounds (454 thousand kilograms) per year! With modernization came increased production: by 1898 there were forty-six mills employing over two hundred men! By 1910 KEANSBURG had reached its peak with forty-eight mills producing seventy million pounds (27 thousand kilograms) of flour each month! However World War I interrupting these productions caused many layoffs but also new construction including keensberg's first electric power plant which began operations in 1924! After World War I ended most production ceased except for some small exports until keensberg resumed full production in 1936 when it became an auto dealership center! Today KEANSBURG remains an important manufacturing center with over fifty businesses employing more than one hundred people!
