Keansburg is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,304 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mercer County. The area that would become Keansburg was first settled by German and Dutch colonists in 1695. The first European to see what became Keansburg was Nicholas Lambert who built a cabin on the banks of the Raritan River in 1714. In 1730, George Washington passed through Keansburg on his way to visit West Point and it remained an important stop for travelers until 1834 when the Railroad arrived and Keansburg lost its economic importance. In 1849, Pembroke Township formed from part of Mercer Township with the goal of providing a more centralized government for all of Mercer County. On July 1, 1850, Pembroke Township was enlarged by adding land from North Brunswick Township to form what is now Keansburg Village. At this time there were only five homes in Keansburg Village and only three people lived there full-time: John Hagerty (a carpenter), Isaac Miller (a farmer) and Andrew Doherty (a cooper). Keanskburgh experienced significant growth following World War II with manufacturing moving out towards Camden while service industry moved into townfill areas nearby Johnston Airport becoming home base for Continental Airlines after being hangar space available next door at Newark Liberty International Airport since 1948 until lease expired in 1969 allowing then Newark Penn Station development taking place ensuing increased traffic congestion around airport . This led directlyogenesisof today's PATH train system coming into town thru Jersey City connecting metropolitan areas within New York City via Uniondale/Jersey City Train Terminal

Keansburg is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,759 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1792 by George Kean and his wife Anna Maria. The town took its name from John Kean, an early settler. In 1824, it became part of the newly created township of Sussex. In 1871, the section of Keansburg east of Route 27 was annexed to nearby East Brunswick Township; this left Keansburg with a total population of 4,812. In 1951, the section west of Route 27 were annexed to neighboring North Brunswick Township; this left Keansburg with a total population of 6,365. From 1984 until 2000, Keansburg also had a community college which offered certificates and degrees in various fields including law and nursing. The college closed its doors in 2000 but reopened asemediate-level Rutgers University School of Continuing Studies in 2006 after being sold to Rutgers University for $40 million USD. As part of that sale process, Rutgers agreed to close all but one undergraduate degree program (the School of Architecture) while retaining all other programs and facilities within their school boundaries As part as part their role as local provider for education there are also many businesses located throughout the borough providing small businesses with access to local services such as roads maintenance or janitorial help when needed along with essential supplies like food stores or plumbing supplies when necessary
Keansburg was founded in 1735 by Anthony Kean and his wife Elizabeth. The town quickly became a center for leatherworking, manufacturing, and agriculture. In 1814, the Keansburg Railroad was established to transported goods from the surrounding farms to New York City. The town experienced significant growth during the 19th century as a result of its ties to New York City and its location on Long Island. However, during World War II, Keansburg lost much of its population due to the American military's bombing of the town. Today, Keansburg is a small agricultural community with few commercial activities.
