The Keansburg National Guard was established in 1921 as a result of the New Jersey state militia's adaptation of the United States Home Guard. The first unit was organized on December 15, 1921. At its inception, the Keansburg National Guard consisted of 203 men and women who had been mobilized from various towns in Sussex County and Middlesex County. In 1924, the New Jersey General Assembly passed legislation authorizing the drilling and deployment of a national guard force within the state. On July 1, 1925, theKeansburg National Guard became part of NJ State Troops when it was ratified by Governor John P. Stevens. In 1933, NJ State Guardsmen were authorized to wear badges with "NJ" embroidered upon them in lieu of their county insignia or badge number. The organization also received a new emblem - an eagle clutching a laurel wreath above its head - which could be worn on both full-dress uniforms and civilian clothing. In 1940, during World War II, Keansburg NationalGuard units served throughout southern New Jersey including at Newark Liberty Airport where they guardedagainst Axis aggression for two months in December 1940 before withdrawing to avoid detection by Air Force intelligence officers monitoring enemy movements near Atlantic City Maintaining close ties with NJ State Troops throughout these wartime years has helped maintain continuity within Keansburg's military community while maintaining sister city relationships with many municipalities across New Jersey Later that year on November 10th, 1941 as part of Veterans Day observances throughout all 50 states nationwide through proclamation by President Franklin D. Keansburg is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,846 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City metropolitan area. The first Keansburg post office was established on July 6, 1845, by Samuel and Hannah Kean from Westfield Township. The current post office building was built in 1912 and replaced an earlier structure that burned down in 1906. The Kean family founded the small town of Keansburg on May 20, 1867, after coming to America from Germany via the Trans-Atlantic Railroad. After three years of growth and development, the village had a population of 80 residents and consisted of just two blocks of Main Street. In 1871-72, when Keansburg annexed parts of Caldwell Township (now Clifton), it became one of the most rapidly growing municipalities in New Jersey due to its well-developed public works program which included construction of a new schoolhouse and roads. In 1895-96 when Camden County was created with its own government following Reconstruction following the American Civil War, Keansburg saw increased growth as it became part of Camden County's newly formed government services district known as West Egg District #2 through annexation of portions of Red Bank Township (now Highland Park). By 1915 there were over 1,000 people living in Keansburgtownships with businesses ranging from grocery stores to dry goods dealers. Despite this rapid growth rate during this time period some challenges faced byKeansberguilders included high rents for landowning families while working class citizens could not easily afford such high prices for goods; lack off jobs or education opportunities for workers outside their homes; difficulty financing large projects; and competition from neighboring towns which had larger populations but lower property values relative to those in Keansbergtownship

Keansburg is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to see and visit Keansburg were Dutch traders in 1614 who charted the route from New Amsterdam to Morristown on October 26th. They named the small village "Keen-sberg" after Captain John Keen, one of their sailors. In 1764, Nicholas Myricks founded a gristmill just outside of town which became known as "Myricks Mill". In 1812, Colonel James Smith donated land to make Keansburg a boroughship; it was granted on November 11th that year by Governor George Washington. On February 14th of that year, the Borough Council voted 3-2 to change its name to Keansburg because of its proximity to Newark and its close relationship with newly formed Bergen County. On July 8th 1903, during the construction of Franklin Avenue (now Roosevelt Boulevard), stones from nearby Hackensack were used in creating the cornerstone for what would become Keansburg's first public building - The Town Hall (now called Borough Hall). At that time there was no street grid or plan for municipalities so streets were given numeric numbers beginning with 1. This was done in order to avoid confusion should future additions be made to Keansburg's boundaries. On December 5th 1926, President Calvin Coolidge delivered his inaugural address at The Old State House located on Clinton Street within sight of today’s Iselin Mall across Clinton Street from where he addressed an overflow crowd inside what would later become known as “The War Memorial Chapel” and still remains today as part of Easton Township Government buildings complex located off US 1 exit #277 – east side opposite Hasbrouck Heights HS! Keansburgh residents have been involved in many different aspects throughout their history including politics (eastern Morris County's only elected township form), business (a wide variety including grocery stores/cafes/pizza places) and agriculture (thanks largely to three large farmers' markets which have continued uninterrupted operation since before World War II!). There has never been one dominant force dominating all these different sectors - always some mixture or combination thereof has prevailed!
Keansburg was originally a small village in Essex County, New Jersey. It was originally called "Keenstown" after General John Keenan and his family who settled there in the mid-19th century. In 1868, the community of Keansburg was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature. The borough's first mayor was George Aiken. The population of Keansburg reached 5,000 in 1940, but declined to 3,000 by 1960. At that point, Borough Council decided not to reapply for boroughhood due to growing residential development around it and lack of economic opportunity within the community. In 1984, Keansburg voters passed a referendum approving incorporation into Township of Summit with its own government and taxes. The Keansburg Township Council then changed its name to Summit Park Township on December 15th of that year.
