In 1916, the Keansburg Coffee Company merged with the Dutch-owned Newark Coffee Company to form the Newark Coffee Corporation. In 1949, the Keansburg Coffee Corporation merged with Lehigh Valley caffeine giant Caffeine Corporation to form United States Cellular Communications Incorporated (UCCI). UCCI continued to produce high quality artisan coffee until its dissolution in 2002 under newly formed corporate ownership.
Keansburg is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Keansburg were Dutch colonists who arrived there in 1664. The current town was founded by Loyalists during the American Revolution and was named for General James Kempton, commander of British forces in North America. After the war, the town reverted to its original name and began growing slowly until it reached its current size around 1900. The post office called Keansburg "Queensborough" from 1814 until 1847; however, this spelling was dropped because it sounded too similar to Kingston Township which then had a post office called Queensborough (the name continued being used until 1944). In 1916, Keansburg became part of the new Municipal Borough of Newark after merging with other towns within Newark Township including West Orange and Belleville. In 1922, it became an independent municipality again under the name of Keansburg-Newark. Keansburg was a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,956 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Wilmington Combined Statistical Area. The first Keansburg post office opened in 1868, and the name derived from John Keanes, an early settler. The community was located on the Piscataway River east of Princeton. In 1876, land on Main Street bordered by Keansburg Road and Newark Avenue was donated to build a public school which became known as "Keansburg School." On December 12th, 1886, the first courthouse in Mercer County opened its doors to residents of Keansburg. The town rapidly grew due to its location along the Piscataway River and its access to transportation including ferries and trains. Businesses included a sawmill, grocery store, tannery, hotel and more than 20 residences by 1890 when roads were developed that facilitated travel within the community.
