In 1922, the first Italian-owned coffee house in Jersey City was founded by Luigi Ancelotti. At that time, it was one of the most popular spots for espresso and pastries in town. In 1951, The Italian Coffee House closed its doors after a fire destroyed the building. In 1961, entrepreneur John Fenton opened America's First Coffee Shop on Grove Street in downtown Jersey City. It served delicious espresso drinks and pies until 1984 when it closed its doors due to financial difficulties. In 1989, entrepreneur Edward D'Angelo opened New York's First Italian Cafe on Broad Street in downtown Jersey City with his own personal espresso bar called "Dal Negro". It stayed open until 2000 when it too folded due to financial troubles.

In 1776, George Washington became Commander-in-Chief of American forces in West Point after winning a campaign against Great Britain near Trenton. Because West Point was west of Manhattan at that time, it needed someone to lead it as part of his military strategy for keeping America open during the period leading up to independence from Great Britain. Washington recommended that he nominate John Harrison as commander at Fort George on Hudson River because Harrison had earlier successfullydefeated British troops at Saratoga Springs in 1777. On July 14, 1776, Harrison was appointed Commander-in-chief and began construction on Fort George which would eventually become known as Liberty Hall or The White House

Jersey City, New Jersey is a city in the U.S. state of New Jersey, and the county seat of Hudson County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,584,723. It is located on the eastern edge of New York City proper and straddles the border between New York and Pennsylvania. The Newark-Newark Airport is located in Jersey City. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Jersey City were Dutch traders who established a small trading post there in 1609. In 1664, English colonists arrived on an expedition led by Admiral Christopher Newport and named it Portsmouth after their hometown of Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. Their settlement became known as Elizabethtown after Queen Elizabeth I granted them land at that location for defense purposes against French incursions into northern Manhattan during her reign (1664-1702). In 1714, though disputed by both Londoners and Pennsylvanians due to ethnicity differences among these groups (the latter thinking they received too little from the grant), Jameson's Treaty legally transferred all Native American settlements east of Market Street including Elizabethtown to Pennsylvania under British control as part of wider efforts to open up new frontiers for settlement by white men. A large number of English Protestants moved intoElizabethtown during this period as part of what has come to be called "Portsmouthization" or "Anglo-Dutch Settlement." During its peak in 1849–1851 when population reached 10,000 people per square mile (3 km²), Jersey City was one of the most lively areas on Long Island because so many people worked in Philadelphia - then only a small town - transporting goods and passengers along Route 9A from points northward via Hackensack River crossings across Monmouth County on horseback or wagons before reaching Philadelphia either by way of Middleton Junction near Allentown or Newtown Center near Bethlehem Township before continuing onward through Easton over Huntingdon Valley until reaching High Bridge just outside Manchester; travelers crossing Delaware Bay also passed through Deep Water Channel Reach which lay athwart northeastern boundaries then bordered by present day Bloomfield Township with its outlet towards Princeton; passenger traffic passing through Newark/Newark airport while still flying above Newark took approximately two hours thereby making it possible for those living inland enough not to lose their jobs completely once they landed back home Colonial Williamsburg Museum offers excellent insight into life aboard ships arriving at that port circa 1700 In 1874 James Jankowski built his famous brewery adjacent to today's PATH train station – one of America's earliest breweries - thus becoming one halfway around the world renowned for his beer exports which continue even today . His Brewery also became home to America’s first municipal water system providing potable water for residents throughout central NJ The brewery closed its doors circa 1975 but reopened as The James Jankowski Brewery Museum & Park which remains operational today
