Gourmet Coffee in Jersey City, New Jersey began as a small coffee shop on the corner of Front and Livingston Streets in the heart of downtown Jersey City. The first gourmet coffee store in the city was founded by two friends, Bill and Pat Bagshaw, in 1978. They started out selling roasted beans only, but soon opened a second location in an old bank building on Broad Street. Gourmet Coffee quickly became one of the most popular coffee stores in town. The company has since expanded its operations to include five locations throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The first coffee shop in Jersey City, New Jersey was The Coffee House on Harrison Street in 1875. The shop was run by Mr. and Mrs. Wiegand and served coffee, cigars, and newspapers. The shop was later renamed the Wiegand Cafe and opened its doors to the public in 1903. In 1916, the cafe closed due to World War I rationing and reopened as a small grocery store known as the Gourmet grocery store with Mr. Wiegand serving as its manager until his death in 1948. In 1951, the Gourmet grocery store along with other businesses within Jersey City were acquired by Dutch Schultz who renamed them Dutch Schultz' Newark Coffee Shop which continues to operate today as a retail business selling coffee, pastries, milk products, eggs, bacon products and other items from their364-square-foot location at 6th Avenue and Market Street in Newark NJ
Jersey City is a city in New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,571 at the 2010 census. It is the eighth-most populous city in New Jersey and the ninth-most populous city in the United States. The Newark–Gordonsville Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes both Newark and Paterson, had a population of 902,702 as of July 2013. The first Europeans to visit what is now Jersey City were Dutch traders and missionaries who came ashore on Cherry Island in 1609. In 1764, Jameson built a fort on Sandy Hook Point to protect his shipping interests in the area during the French and Indian War. In 1814, George Washington led an army through New Jersey along the way from Trenton to Camden before crossing over into Pennsylvania to cross the Delaware River at Bridgeport. After Battle of Fort Mifflin (1814), American forces retreated back into New Jersey under British General William Howe. In 1837, Robert Morris founded what would become Rutgers University in Paramus; he donated land for its then-new campus on West Orange Avenue between Union Street and Ferry Road (now called University Boulevard). Morris also commissioned John Stevens’s iconic red brick building as one of two campuses for Rutgers – now known as Raymond Hobbs Hall – with Livingston College nearby on East Fourth Street west of Park Row. Roasted beans were expensive back then, so many people drank iced Coffee or hot Coffee.m However, with the advent of industrialized farming methods in those regions (mostly in South America), Coffee began to become more affordable. Today's high-quality coffees are sourced from Africa, Asia Minor (Turkey), Colombia, Guatemala City, Peru and Brazil. The history of gourmet coffee is colorful and full of innovation. Some of the earliest cafes serving quality espresso were located near theaters or hotels where clientele could enjoy a cup of joe while they waited for a performance or viewings. Other early cafes offered their customers speciality blends – such as Italian roast – which helped build customer loyalty over time. And finally, later cafés started offering premium grade beans at much lower prices to appeal to a wider audience than just top-end hotel guests or theater goers.

Jersey City is an unincorporated community and borough located in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 31,651. It is one of five municipalities in New Jersey that are wholly or partly situated on the Hackensack River system, which forms much of the eastern border of Jersey City proper. The other four municipalities are Newark, Paterson, Englewood Cliffs, and Southwick. The first European settlement in what is now Jersey City was by Dutch colonists who petitioned for a charter from King George III in 1764. The town's name originated with two grants from King James II of England: "Hague Township" (now part of Far Rockaway) to be named for him and "Newark Township" (later called Camden County) to be named after his brother Prince Maurice de la Rochefoucauld. In 1814, during the American Civil War, General Robert Ewell Bridge refused to open up a route through Camden County for Union forces because he feared it would help Confederate troops move reinforcements into central New Jersey faster than they could cross overland. AfterBridge’s death in 1871, government control passed from the British Crown to United States hands and Rutgers University obtained a charter as an independent university under America’s new Constitution in 1868). During World War II many factories were built around Monmouth Junction at Paramus; these included Pascagoula Rubber Company and General Motors plant #1 at Plantsville which produced tanks, bombers and other military hardware used during World War II As a result of industrial production there has been large demolition/clearance jobs going on recently as developers try to rebuild areas contaminated by former manufacturing plants over time In 2008-2009 there were also large job openings for software engineers/testers/ testers etc., specifically within Newark's inner city neighborhoods such as Midtown Heights and Park Slope The Port Authority Bus Terminal is located just north east corner of NJ-58 across from Station Square Shopping Center & Hudson Yards redevelopment project It opened on February 5th 1969 with service to Brooklyn terminals via buses operated by MTA
The first Europeans to set eyes on Jersey City were Giovanni da Verrazzano and hiscrew in 1524. The area that is now Jersey City was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland until 1664, when it became part of English America. The city's name originated with the ancient manor house called Jersey which stood on the site of present-day Newark Liberty International Airport. In 1764, during the American Revolutionary War, General Washington and his army crossed the Delaware River into Pennsylvania at Trenton and marched through Jersey City before turning north towards Philadelphia. Aftermath of the war saw a large influx of refugees from New York City, as well as people from other parts of British America who had sided with revolutionary forces. In 1814, after President James K. Polk issued an Executive Order establishing West Side Railroad Company to build a railroad connecting Point Pleasant Park in Princeton with Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn, Jersey City became one of its primary hubs. For many years this company functioned as an informal monopoly due to its political connections within New York society. During World War II, industry moved away from Newark and towardJersey City due to wartime shortages of materials such as coal and rubber products which could be produced only in larger cities like Detroit or Cleveland. The city's boundaries grew further outwards during the 1940s and 1950s as housing values increased along Hudson Street (now known as Midtown Avenue), while downtown gradually lost its importance as a commercial center following development around Newark Liberty Airport and Parsippany Hills Simon Johnson School for Education
