Hawthorne, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first coffeehouse in Hawthorne was established in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his wife Sara Conte as the Antique Coffee House. It served as a meeting place for farmers and other local residents to discuss issues concerning their farms and businesses. In 1836, John Galt opened the Galt's Coffee House on Main Street which became one of the most popular cafes in town. In 1881, JH Lawrence opened The Daily Review coffee house on Market Street which became known for its fresh air and delicious coffee selections. In 1888, The Daily Review coffee house was renamed The Star-Ledger after Bergen County Newspapers bought it from Lawrence. Over the years many different names were given to this business including The EveningStar Newspaper Company until it changed its name to Haworth Press Corporation in 1984 due to corporate reorganization within Hearst Corporation (the parent company of McCloy paper chain). In 1952, Harry Heinemann founded Heinemann Publications Limited with offices located at 5 Newark Avenue in Hawthorne which published newspapers such as "The Star-Ledger" and "TheDaily News". After he died in 1969, his son William Heinemann took over management of Haworth Press Corporation until his death in 2000. At Harry Heinemann Publications Ltd.'s death all ownership of Haworth Press Corporation passed through to his three sons: William H., Jonathan K., and David C.. After David C.'s death on October 1st 2002 all remaining ownership passed through to his widow Tracy Ressler who currently manages the corporationassement along with her two children Jason Kappes and Jenna Kappes both graduate students at Rutgers University - Camden School of Journalism & Mass Communication where they are pursuing degrees both full time while also working as interns at HPRC during their summers). Hawthorne was founded by Nathaniel Hawthorne on October 16, 1809 as a small community within what is now eastern Mercer County. It became an incorporated town on February 12, 1911. On November 3, 1960, it merged with adjoining Valley Forge to form the larger township of Hawthorne and Valley Forge. The name "Hawthorne" comes from Nathaniel Hawthorne's home in Farmington Hills,, Michigan where he spent his summers between 1807 and 1810 when he was 17 years old and writing "The House With The Mockingbird". In 1811 he moved to America and found a small farm called "Hollow Hill", near present-day Hawthorn Heights in Mercer County. He named the farm after one of his favorite books - "The Hawkeye conformable to your notions of romance" - which also happens to be its title page for the first edition published in 1817 (). Nathaniel Hawthorne died at age 54 on December 6,1865 in Concord Township while living there with his wife Lucy Stone Hawthorne who wrote parts of Alice Sebold's novel Dracula under her maiden name Gertrude Stein: ""It would not do for me to live too long among people I did not love."" His body was brought back to America where they were buried next to each other at Forest Lawn Cemetery nearby in Concord Township until their remains were interred together some time after their death but before they had any children born into their unions; this allowed them both final resting places without feeling forced into competition or side-by-side graves like so many others during that time period only blessedly shared by different families through marriage or adoption etc...

Hawthorne is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,831 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent European settlers arrived in what is now Hawthorne in 1795 and named it after John Quincy Adams's home state of Massachusetts. The first post office was established in 1807 and was called "Adamsville". The township formed from portions of Hunterdon and Morris counties on July 1, 1837, by an act of the New Jersey General Assembly. On February 14, 1860, it became a borough within the new city of Camden. On October 26, 1984, Hawthorne voted to become one of five townships within the newly created Camden Township government which consolidated with other municipalities without statewide vote on November 3 that year to form the Camden-Hoboken Metro region. On April 25, 2009, Hawthorne announced it would not be returning to township form following approval by voters in a referendum held that same day for consolidation into Camden-Hoboken Metro region governance structures.
Hawthorne was founded in 1798 by Captain John Hawthorne, a Revolutionary War veteran. The original settler were four brothers who named their farm "Hawthorne". In 1844, the land that now makes up Hawthorne was purchased by James C. Reeves from the heirs of Colonel Nathaniel Pope.
