The town was founded in 1764 and began trading with European countries, including Switzerland, from its location on the Delaware River. Coffee beans were brought overland by traders and farmers, and were first roasted in small shops near the town center. By 1875, coffee roasters had begun to be built up into large businesses in the area, and Haddonfield became a major coffee production center. Haddonfield is a small town in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Jersey City metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Haddonfield were Native Americans who called it "Haasiwinigan" meaning "place of many trees." In 1689, Nicholas Percival found a grant of land in what is now Haddonfield from Sir Walter Raleigh for his service in the English military during the Nine Years' War. In 1812, John Morse bought one third of the grant and built himself a house on his property which still stands as part of Haddonfield's downtown district today. The settlement was named after General James Craik (1754-1828), an officer in George Washington's army who fought with distinction at Saratoga and Yorktown. Craik had been Quartermaster General under Washington during the American Revolution and later became Deputy Director of Finance under President Andrew Jackson. In 1814, Craik organized a group of men to build a road through present day Haddonfield from Milford to Princeton which they christened "Craik Road". This founding event helped set off what would become one of Haddonfield's most important economic engines - its lumber industry. By 1860, the town had 6 churches and 100 residents; by 1920 it had 12 churches and 2,500 residents. It was not until after World War II that post-war suburban growth began to take hold in Haddonfield; today it has around 10,000 residents within its limits. Although agriculture remains a strong force in local life - raising hay for livestock or cows for cheese - recent years have seen heavy investment into housing development throughout central and eastern parts of the borough which have driven down prices for homes hereabouts while also generating jobs outside traditional farming areas upstream on Raritan Bayou (the river running through town). Haddonfield started out as just another farmstead located along present day Raritan Bayou; but over time it quickly became an important center for trade between this inland waterway and points eastward via Route 1A – making it one early example among many where commerce supplanted agriculture as the primarystayoflifeinanremote cornerofNewjersey

Roasting began taking place at night to avoid rotting fruits or vegetables which would release ethylene gas which caused coffees to develop an unpleasant odor. The first coffee beans were roasted in a small, hand-operated roaster located in the town of Yerba Buena. The business was founded by Antonio Fernandez and Manuel Moreno in 1825. In 1901, Dutch entrepreneur Cornelius Fritsch imported two thousand pounds of new Arabica beans from Africa and began to roast them at his company, Ackerley & Co., near San Francisco. In 1915, Java Coffee Roasters began to produce coffee for export under the name Java Gold. By 1933, all of Ackerley's coffee plants were closed down due to Depression-era competition from Brazil's Companhia Brasileira de Cereais (CBR).

The town of Haddonfield, New Jersey was founded in 1724 by the Dutch. The town grew rapidly and soon became a center for trade and commerce. The area that now makes up Haddonfield was first settled by Europeans in the early 1600s, and it is believed that the first permanent European inhabitant of what is now Haddonfield was Johannes Gutenberg. In 1724, Thomas Paine arrived in America on a ship called the Dolphin. He was one of the founders of Philadelphia. When Paine arrived in America, he decided to settle in what is now Haddonfield because it had been granted land by King George II as part of his grant to settlers in New Jersey. The town quickly became prosperous thanks to its location and its natural resources. It prospered until the Revolutionary War began. After the war, many British immigrants came to Haddonfield and their presence contributed to its decline. In 1831, a group of farmers from County Down moved into what is now southern Haddonfield and started farming cotton plantations. This led to heavy industry growth in nearby Camden; however, this did not benefit northern Haddonfield which continued to experience economic decline after 1830. Due to these challenges, many people left Haddonfield for other parts of America during the 1800s-19th century. By 1860, only about 10 percent of those living in town remained active participants in its commercial life….
